Simon Dray

EDUCATION - Fine Art (Painting) at Kingston School of Art.
Art Teacher's Certificate at Goldsmith's College, University of London. Lecturer in Communication Design at Epsom School of Art.

COMMERCIAL WORK - I have built dioramas and painted murals for museums around the world.
Worked for many years as an Art Director and prop maker in Film and Television.
Produced paintings and murals for some of the world's largest cruise ships.
Designed and carried out artwork for numerous exhibitions.

PAINTINGS - Many of my paintings are influenced by torn and weathered advertising hoardings. By definition these are essentially graphic in style. Due to their layering and partly concealed words and images, I see them as metaphors for a disturbing world of alternative truths and fake news, however they can have an aesthetic appeal, a strong visual vibrancy and in some cases elements of irony, humour and pathos.

By contrast I am also interested in landscape painting, a subject matter involving an interest in the texture and application of paint which when combined with a reduced palette can express both mood and atmosphere.
