Trees

As a young child, I lived on a small farm that had a wooded area in a rear corner. I loved the play of the light on the grass, the leaves and trunks of trees, and on the nearby shrubs. When I began painting en plein air, that love for nature came back to me. I love doing hand painted, colorful, somewhat abstract, contemporary oil paintings because the colors are bright and fun. I use oil colors for my paintings because the colors will not fade and allow me to create beautiful original colors that are able to capture the emotion of the landscape and transfer it to the canvas for you to experience and enjoy. I take my easel to a location - the park, the ocean, the mountains, or the field - and set up and paint in the sun, wind, rain, and insects. In the words of the poet, "no matter whether you have sunburn, bug bites, lost your brush, or spilled your paint, you've still had a good day."

Randell Research Center “Randell Research Center”

Randell Research Center is an abstract original hand painted landscape oil painting 36" x 36" x 3/4" with painted canvas wrapped around the edges. It was created en plein air (French for "open air") and captures the emotions of nature and brings them to you for your enjoyment. The painting is playful, somewhat abstract and contemporary in style, with expressionism overtones.
It was painted at the Randell Research Center on Pine Island, just off the coast of Fort Myers, FL. The Randell Research Center studies the life and times of the Caloosa Indians who controlled most of southern Florida for over 1000 years and the Center works closely with the University of FL.

Turtle Island III “Turtle Island III”

Turtle Island III is an original hand painted abstract landscape oil painting 30" x 30" x 3/4" with painted canvas wrapped around the edges. It was created en plein air (French for "open air") and captures the emotions of nature and brings them to you for your enjoyment. It was painted in Pemberton Park, Salisbury, MD, and shows a tree on a small island surrounded by water from the Wicomico River.

Old Soldiers “Old Soldiers”

Old Soldiers is an original hand painted abstract landscape oil painting 30" x 30" x 3/4" with painted canvas wrapped around the edges. It was created en plein air (French for "open air") and captures the emotions of nature and brings them to you for your enjoyment. The painting is playful, somewhat abstract and contemporary in style, with expressionism overtones.
The painting is of 3 old trees which have lost many branches, but have survived storms and had many years of providing shade for owners of the home and nests for birds. These trees are in the yard of a house on the Bivalve Wharf Road in Bivalve, MD, on the MD Eastern Shore.
