Artwork

" The painter's interest in the artwork was provoked indirectly by the situation in which he found oneself. At the climax of the Covid-19 pandemic, when people were dying en masse and the regulations on moving around were stricter, he participated in a discussion that turned into a kind of uncontrollable hysteria. At some point, the young people gave up and started yelling at each other. They all thought that it shouldn't concern them because they are too young, they have their own plans, they don't want to lose their lives like their parents, now that the boundaries and possibilities have finally opened up. The artist was silent, observing the situation. At one point, the hysterical crowd turned to him and asked what he was planning to do in this situation? He replied that if it were to end now, all he wanted to do was buy and read the whole Qur'an. After these words, everyone silenced and the hysteria subsided. The painter did as he said. Due to the current restrictions, the purchase of the book was extremely difficult. In the end, he managed to order it in another city with an indication that the waiting time was two weeks. After this time, he received a notification about the hours and conditions for entering the bookstore. The moment of receiving it was a huge surprise. The book, in contrast to the books on the shelves, was not only deprived of protection foil, but also had a damaged binding. The furious saleswoman threw the book, demanding payment. The artist, appalled by her behavior, pointed out that the book is not secured and is also damaged, and yet it costs the same as the books secured on the shelf waiting for their recipients. The saleswoman threw the book again into the box on the ground, in which it had previously been stored, informing that it would be returned. The artist was so shocked by the whole incident that he could not imagine leaving without it. In the course of further activities, he underwent bookbinding training, got acquainted with the technique of dyeing and gilding pages and set off to work. This way, he created a new graphic design of the Koran, documenting the entire process from the very beginning and immortalizing it in the photos that were included in the catalogue(...)" - "Lea Laboy Paintings"

Frida Kahlo- Miniature Book- Lea Laboy

Dear Sir or Madam, it is with great pleasure that I present my miniature hand-sewn book inspired by the life and work of one of my favorite painters, Frida Kahlo. The book uses a special treatment of shifting the pages in order to achieve a combination of colors and to maintain the impression of loose notes from a diary. A storage box was also made for the book, inspired by the form of one of the painter's most beautiful and significant paintings, as well as a catalog was published, which will go to the Miniature Book Museum and collectors of the miniature forms.
