Films are about love, anxiety, hope, fear, longing, uncertainty, all kind of human emotions. A film consists of many, many pictures. A painting is also a kind of film, although it consists of just one picture. It could be about any kind of human emotions. Here I tell about uncertainties.

A face is a most fascinating landscape. It includes all kind of colours, lines, and surfaces. It includes lightness and darkness, green and brown, and many hidden places. I like to explore the emotions of landscapes.

Throughout the history of art, the three Graces have always appeared together. They always turn towards each other. They hold each other’s hands. They admire each other. The three Graces, however, have always excluded the fourth. At least we have never heard about the fourth. But I decided to paint her as well.

I painted this picture in memory of Gabriel García Márquez (1927-2014), who in One Hundred Years of Solitude describes how a remarkable character was constantly swarmed by yellow butterflies. In the end such butterflies might also have followed Márquez.
I enjoy very much the place where I’m painting. It is a small house, the light is perfect, and outside these is a small garden.
Although painted on two different canvases the couple stay together: for the moment at the restaurant MERO just around the corner here in Rio Claro where we live. Maybe they look at the guests around; maybe they notice when Miriam, my wife and I visit the restaurant; maybe their minds travel somewhere else. But above all: they are happy to be together.
GALARIA COLORIDA in Lisbon shows some of my paintings. One of the paintings I have called Mona Lisa with the Harelip. I do not know about other paintings paying attention to this very human feature.

DOUBT is a profound human emotion, as deeply rooted in the human condition as the existentialist conception of anxiety. I have tried to express doubt through the inpredictable dynamics of colours.
One can express emotions in words: anxiety, hope, love, longing… One can also express them in pictures. Emotions are formed through contradictions and paradoxes. I have tried to capture some on the cheapest possible material: cardboards from boxes in which fruits, TV sets, computers, whatever, have been transported. The deepest emotions make part of the flow of everyday life.

HVERDAGSSMILET. This everyday smile comes from within – when one remembers, when one thinks ahead, and when one imagines. It does not belong to parties or to photographing.
