L'anima del bosco by Barbara Villosio

Landscapes in Motion
Analysing the theme for the 2017 edition of the
“Matteo Olivero Prize”, I believe that my work could
represent a new idea in expressing a moving
landscape.
“I miei Legni” – My Wood, as I call them, are small
sections of bark through which trees move and
change; talking and communicating to the viewer.
The picture changes and reveals itself in varied
possibilities, depending on the interaction of the
observer.
With my work, I want to create a space in which the
picture itself is a provocation, reaching out beyond its
physical support, to bring out and communicate with
the inner feelings of the observer. My work must only
appear and communicate, to make one think and
believe that this world does still have a meaning.
I spread and re spread a mix of bitumen, alternating
the absence and presence of background colour
combined and blended with marks and signs.
Each block of colour and every mark is made in such
a way as not to be explicit on the surface of the
painting, but rather embedded into a kind of echo.
The marks make the viewer look and observe,
encouraged by the illusory movements and by the
consistency of the material that give depth and motion
to the painting.
