Canada's Provincial Flowers by Anne Isabelle McQuire Swartz

Belle painted her first series of Canadian Provincial Flowers for Canada’s 100th Anniversary in 1967. The solo exhibit of large oil palette knife paintings, exhibited at the Penell Gallery in Toronto’s trendy Yorkville, was commissioned by Walker Press. Belle revisited her passion for the flowers in the 1990’s, with a series of sketches and large oil palette knife paintings. Belle also added a large oil palette knife painting composed of all 12 flowers. At 137x172 cm. the 12 flowers reach for one-another in a stained glass or quilted motif painting.
