WILDLIFE ART. by MATTEO GERMANO

Drawings, Watercolours and Oil Paintings, paint from 2007 to 2017.

The works represent different types of tropical animals; even if they are of different species, they have a common characteristic: very bright colors. It is the color that caught my attention, because it is a means of communication very important in the animal kingdom and in human society, especially in recent years.
With the advent of technology, the color has become increasingly significant; in fact, it is an essential part of the technological devices that modern man uses daily. However, in my opinion, the variety of colors found in nature can never be matched by the quality of those produced artificially.
I think that in contemporary society, become too hectic, would made a deeper reflection on the fact that the man, who while he lived an evolution, continues to draw inspiration from nature. Since ancient times, in fact, the art was based on the surrounding environment; the concept of mimesis appears particularly significant in this aspect. For Plato, mimesis is an activity that affects both men when they produce such as paintings, both Gods when they create dreams. The human mimesis is then divided into figurative, when the images faithfully reproduce the model, and in fantastic, when they copy illusory, in which the free interpretation of the artist has a role.
I, as an artist, I wanted to pay tribute to nature with my work and in particular to animals, perhaps little known but beautiful in their forms and in their colors, which should be protected instead of being exterminated or imprisoned captivity by unscrupulous individuals, who sacrifice the natural beauty and respect for endangered species to purely economic reasons. My work wants to be a contribution to public awareness to reflect on a theme, that of the preservation of nature, that affects everyone and that is one of the major challenges of the century we are living.
