Simone De Knecht

Born in 1952. She lives and works in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.Modern urban cities with their adventuresome architecture and spectacular and dazzling commercials play an influential role in de Knecht's work. The canvas, filled from top to bottom, is reminiscent of a stained-glass-window through which the visitor is lured into an imaginative world. Although flat, alvost devoid of perspective, de Knecht's work achieves depth through use of multiple layers of colour. Back lines and meticulous detail, distinctive features of her work, suggest a fascination with an ordered chaos, the autonomy and crowd, of urban city architecture. De Knecht was awarded “the Jeroen-Bosch-Concours” prize as part of Rotterdam City of Culture 2001.
2010: Award Best of Cityscapes at Artists Haven Gallery Ft Lauderdale FL.
