Colorado Mining Project

This project consists of a collection of black and white photographs from various "retired" Colorado mines. More than just recording the mines themselves, I chose to document the living areas of the miners and their families.

Playroom “Playroom”

A collapsing miner's home shows a playroom with a hand drawn giraffe on the wall.

Miner's Bathtub “Miner's Bathtub”

Over the years, the cast iron bathtub made its way to the front sitting room, from its original location.

Tree in Window “Tree in Window”

In an abandoned cabin, a tree grows through the floor of a bedroom, and reaches for the window.

Fireplace “Fireplace”

In the decaying sitting room, the painting of the pine trees on the fireplace, are still visible.

Catalog Wallpaper “Catalog Wallpaper”

One room in an abandoned cabin shows walls covered with ladies dress advertisements. It appears to be many cutouts from newspapers and catalogs, that cover all four walls. An assumption could be made that this was the room of a young girls with visions of fancy new dresses.
