Wichert Van Engelen

With FrozenSteel as name, Wichert van Engelen makes bronze and steel sculptures in the Openbare Werkplaats Amsterdam.

Wichert is not a conceptual artist. He stands for craftsmanship as an inseparable part of being an artist. Wichert realizes his bronze sculptures entirely himself: from concept / idea, via design, the making of ceramic and plaster molds, to the casting in bronze.
The result: bronze statues with stunning detail.

In the bronze statues, Wichert captures the beauty of natural details in a hyperrealistic way: The Splendor of Nature in the Power of Bronze.
In addition, he regularly makes light excursions: Art with a Wink.

In the steel statues, Wichert "freezes" movement in the hard material. Skating and cycling are regularly recurring themes.

The studio is an inspiring environment with craftsmen working in wood as well as steel. When in Amsterdam, you are more then welcome to come and take a look
