Mark Perry is a painter who was born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island. Mainly self-taught, Perry studied Portraiture and Life Drawing at the Rhode Island School of Design, evening division. In 1987, entering the Providence Art Club’s “Open Painting Show” He won the Milton R. Halladay Award for “Bonnie, a Portrait of a Woman”.

During the 1980’s, in His twenties in Providence Perry was part of a private group, locals and RISD Alumni, who met weekly and painted from the model. Also working for ten years as an electrical draftsman at an architectural engineering firm in Providence.

In 1989 Perry moved to NYC and continued drawing and painting from life at The Society of Illustrator’s and the Spring St. Studio. In the mid-ninety’s spending time in Amagansett, New York, painting landscapes. In 2002 He began painting exclusively in the studio using photography as reference.

In 2009 setting aside photo-based representational work Perry began working abstractly. Today He is producing large and small format, atmospheric oil on canvas paintings that evoke the landscape. He is also exploring and creating a group of original Artist’s Books comprised of work on paper. Each one a collection in a box.
