Patricia Smits, Visual artist - www.patriciasmits.com
(video)-Installations, (light)sculptures, mixed artworks, photographs.
Patricia Smits explores fragments of images out of our daily world in her visual work. With the fragments she develops new compositions and with these she creates space in which (other) constructions can evolve or transform. This allows her to create new environments. In these surroundings other precepts apply, this way the current precepts are tested.

Smits feels a desire for freedom and harmony regarding thoughts and actions, in which equality and consciousness are priorities. The image can stand on its own, or it can give the place in which it is situated a different meaning. Doubting existing things is a part of the content of her work; ‘nothing is the self-evident truth.’ These actions are necessary to enable us to question the structure (or hierarchy) in order to get to the complexity of it.

Bypass - Acrylic painting

The initial idea of “Bypass” emerged when I noticed that I am always trying to create a new way, ‘‘a bypass’’, to deal with our cultural and social worlds in relation to (in)equivalence. By creating bypass artworks I can introduce different forms of thinking and constructions to the viewer. I need it to put daily life into perspective.
This painting can be positioned in any way; (which fits best in the environment, see example photo's) - http://patriciasmits.com/portfolio/bypass-patricia-smits/

ABSORB - The Avoidance of Reality by Absorption.

ABSORB - The Avoidance of Reality by Absorption.
‘Absorb’ shows an alternative reality, a way to avoid or change reality. Reality within the context of the present era and dealing with events in our daily world. I think that ‘behind’ or ‘in’ any reality an entire world could open and not knowing exactly what that is, is what triggers my search for alternative realities.

I live in a rustic and basic environment with forest and nature. Primarily, my daily presence in nature is to be there on the spot. Every day I walk in the woods, generally with a camera, trying to capture special events or moments and making contact with this reality. I thereby explore the entire scope of reality for other structures or systems. In this way I search for boundaries in reality; during this process new ideas can emerge for my artworks.

Time has an equivalence for all species. EGO = inequivalence and TIME = equivalence ?
