Anush Babayan

AnushGBabayan
is PhD, Associate Professor, teaches
at the University, member of the Union of Artists of Armenia and the
International Union of Artists of Estonia, born in Yerevan, RA

A philologist by education, she teaches the author's
subjects: "Axiology of Art", "Aesthetic Communication",
"Creative Therapy with Art". In teaching she uses technologies that
integrate methods of scientific thinking and ways of aesthetic mastering of
being on the basis of synthesis of arts (poetry, painting, music) and
scientific theories.

She paints paintings on rice paper using the Gohua
style, which became the basis for her own artistic style and extraordinary
technique.

Anush Babayan's
creative concept is a captivating exploration of self, the world, and the
Cosmos, as noted by art critics from Armenia, Russia, Belarus, and the USA. Her
paintings serve as dialogues with these realms, offering profound insights into
the cosmic mysteries that reside within each human being.

Renowned American art
critic Peter Frank beautifully encapsulates Babayan's work, stating that her
paintings lead us to the stars only to reveal that the stars are within us,
highlighting the cosmic essence of humanity.

Babayan's unique style
and technique, characterized by painting exclusively on rice paper with a
Chinese brush and without drafts or sketches, reflect her individuality and
deeply philosophical perspective on existence. Each piece serves as a visual
expression of the author's ideological musings, paying homage to her ancestral
wisdom and the eternal cycle of nature.

For Babayan, art is a
means of spiritual exploration and healing. Through her paintings, she invites
viewers to delve into her inner world, confront their own mental clutter, and
ultimately find peace and harmony within themselves.

Many
psychotherapists (Jean Marie Boticier - Belgium, Vardges Davtyan - USA and
others) note that Anush Babayan's paintings carry a message of healing. They
have a strong therapeutic effect on the viewer. As visual prayers, meditations,
Anush's paintings help the viewer to connect his microcosm with the macrocosm,
and then balance and harmony appear inside.

From 2013 to the present she has organized and
participated in 29 exhibitions in different countries: Belarus, Armenia, Russia
and the USA.

Portfolio:

Philosophy and worldview

I am Anush G, Babayan, PhD, Associate Professor, an artist and philosopher. Through abstraction and light, I seek cultural dialogue and spiritual healing. My work bridges ancient wisdom and modern perception. “Magical Impressionism” is not a style — it is a path. It is painting as meditation, as breath. Each stroke is a ritual, each color a prayer. “Babayan’s works are visual meditations that connect the microcosm of the soul with the macrocosm of the universe” (Peter Frank).
I am painting exclusively on rice paper using Chinese brushes, without sketches or corrections — capturing the moment of “here and now.” My art honors ancestral wisdom and the rhythms of nature, offering viewers a space for reflection, healing, and inner transformation.

Philosophy and worldview
This is a visual expression of philosophical reflection on existence — a reverence for the ancient heritage of her people and the ever-renewing rhythms of nature. Here, thoughts and emotions are transformed into knowledge, where the ordinary becomes extraordinary, and the small takes on monumental resonance.
Symbolism and Metaphor
“The vertical of the transcendent and the horizontal of earthly experience converge into a symbolic axis. Through panoramic vision and spatial veiling, the artist invites the viewer to enter her inner world — and through it, to find their own.”
Visual Language
My paintings do not follow conventional narratives. Flowers, mountains, birds, and figures are not depictions, but metaphors. ‘Everything is in me, and I am in everything,’ - that's my opinion. My works are my feeling knowledge on paper..
Technique and Materials
I am working exclusively on rice paper, using ink, mineral pigments, and Chinese brushes. Each stroke is a breath. Corrections are impossible — the work is created in one continuous flow, in a state of deep concentration.

Dawn on the Ocean “Dawn on the Ocean”

"This painting is not merely cosmic—it was created under the impression of the ocean. The swirling forms, iridescent tones, and sense of boundlessness convey the depth and breath of the sea. It becomes a metaphysical ocean, where water turns into light and movement becomes meditation."

Mother Univers “Mother Univers”

Mother Univers— an abstract portrait merging the human face with cosmic energy. The left hemisphere is earthly and recognizable, while the right dissolves into radiant streams of light, symbolizing universal wisdom and spiritual awakening. The painting presents the Mother as a source of light, motion, and infinite love.
