Frits Janse

Frits Janse is a maritime artist specializing in ship portraits, seascapes, harbor scenes, and inland shipping subjects. With a technical background, he previously worked as a marine engineer and later in the process industry.

Although largely self-taught, he has developed his artistic skills through courses and figure drawing sessions in Rotterdam, gaining experience in watercolor, lithography, and printmaking. Today, he works primarily with acrylics, watercolor, and pen drawings.

His work is strongly inspired by his surroundings, particularly ports and ships, as well as atmospheric elements such as dramatic skies, rough waters, and mist, which he captures in his paintings. In addition to maritime themes, he also creates expressive portraits.

Alongside his personal work, he accepts commissions. His artwork is held by private collectors and businesses both nationally and internationally.
