An award-winning poet and playwright, Josepha Gutelius made a radical switch to visual art in 2015. Her paintings and drawings have been selected for numerous awards in national and international competitions and she recently received a generous grant from the Barbara Deming Memorial Fund for her painting series “The Silence of Nowhere.” Much of her work reflects the narrative equivalent of a setting, a mood, an atmosphere, a fleeting memory. Subject matter encompasses a wide variety of contemporary life, including feminism, street art, fashion, politics, family and friends.
