My Body Is Not For Sale

We are living in a moment of profound contradiction: women's bodies are simultaneously more visible than ever and more legislated, commodified, and contested than ever. My series My Body Is Not For Sale was born from this tension — and that tension has only intensified.

My process is itself the statement. I apply paint directly to my own body and press myself onto the canvas — my limbs become the brush. The body that culture tells women to offer up, to shrink, to sell, to perform — that same body becomes the instrument of creation. It is not the subject to be consumed. It is the maker.

I hope that when people stand in front of these works, they feel the physical fact of another woman's presence — not as image, but as imprint, as action, as evidence of a body that claimed its own space. I hope it unsettles the habit of looking at women's bodies as passive objects. And I hope it leaves women, in particular, with a felt sense of what it means to take up space unapologetically — to mark the world rather than be marked by it.
