For ten years photography
was a weekend hobby, but in 1995 I decided to retire from my day job
and begin a second career in nature photography. I am intuitively
drawn to subjects in nature with artistic potential. Whether taking
pictures in my backyard garden or on the road less traveled in my red
4-Runner, finding great subjects has been similar to the excitement
of treasure hunting on the beach, something my sister and I enjoyed
growing up.
Early on I had many
articles published with photos in Oregon Coast and Northwest Travel
magazines. My first national sales were to Outdoor Photographer and
the Inner Reflections calendar. A few years later, I signed on with
AGEfotostock in Barcelona, Spain, where my photos were sold in 36
countries.
In 1997 I teamed up with
another nature photographer to lead workshops on the Oregon coast,
Crater Lake, and scenic locations in Oregon, Washington, and
California. For many years my photos were sold on
danitadelimont.com, a photo agency in Bellevue, Washington. Danita
retired in 2025 and my photos are currently on Superstock, a major
U.S. photo stock agency located in Dallas, Texas.
I am semi-retired now,
enjoying my new passion creating abstract art from my photographs
using tools in Photoshop and a variety of plug-in filters. While the
choices in each filter package are limited, by using a combination of
filters the outcome is infinite. Inspiration often comes during the
process of creation. I now find using Photoshop as a stepping stone
to create art images just as exciting as straight photography. In
the final moments of creation, I feel that sudden 'aha' moment the
Gestalt psychologists describe so beautifully. It's exhilarating,
but inevitably, the moment fades and I am back to work on another
image.
