Ipek Temel

Born in 1974 in Istanbul, I have always experienced art as something as vital as breathing — an inseparable rhythm of my inner life. Painting, for me, is not simply the act of creating images; it is a way of giving form to invisible movements of thought, memory, emotion, and spirit.

My imagination, united with a strong sense of reality and a multidimensional perception, opens an unlimited field during the creative process. Each canvas becomes a space where seen and unseen worlds meet, where intuition translates itself into color, texture, and silent symbolism. Through this process, I do not merely depict forms; I seek to reveal layered emotional and spiritual landscapes.

Being born on the Anatolian lands — a timeless bridge between East and West — is, I believe, a singular inheritance. These lands carry the breath of ancient civilizations, the wisdom of lived cultures, and the deep memory of humanity’s continuous transformation. To emerge from such geography means to carry within oneself a plurality of voices, histories, and sensibilities.

For this reason, I often question whether not belonging entirely to one category is an advantage or a disadvantage. At times, I feel the winds of the West moving through my consciousness; at other times, the mystical breath of the East rises from within. During the creation of my works, I listen carefully to these inner winds. I ask myself: is the breeze flowing into my soul today coming from the East, or from the West? Which point in my roots has awakened today?

This constant dialogue between origins creates the essential dynamic of my artistic language. My works are shaped by this internal migration between cultural poles, between memory and discovery, tradition and reinterpretation.

At the same time, I believe that every artwork must carry an element of peace in order to become truly beautiful. Only when harmony settles within me can I create works that transmit serenity, balance, and a peaceful resonance to the viewer. Therefore, my artistic practice is also an inner search for reconciliation — between East and West, past and present, self and collective memory.

My paintings stand as reflections of these unseen currents: breathing spaces where ancestral heritage, multidimensional imagination, and the longing for peace converge into visual form.
