Soledad Burgaleta is a multidisciplinary artist and writer whose work bridges visual storytelling, literature, and social consciousness. Born in Guatemala and raised between Spain and Argentina, she pursued studies in Law, Business Administration, and Financial Management before transitioning from a career as a CFO in the film industry to a full-time artistic practice.
Her flagship project, A Life in the Gaze, is the result of more than fifteen years photographing and portraying elderly individuals who survive by begging or selling crafts on the streets. She transforms these portraits into colored-pencil drawings on the pages of early 20th-century romantic novels, creating a striking dialogue between idealized love stories and the resilience of real life.
Through her work, Burgaleta highlights themes of dignity, memory, and social inclusion, giving visibility to people often rendered invisible by ageism and poverty. Her artistic exploration expands into painting, photography, and literature, weaving her personal experiences—including the profound impact of family and loss—into a practice that is both intimate and universal.
She currently lives in Mexico, where she continues to develop new projects that unite image and text, color and narrative, always with the aim of inspiring reflection, empathy, and respect for human stories.
