Tita Griesbach

I was born and grew up in the state of Michoacan, Mexico. I have lived in Mexico City for most of my life. I moved to the United States nearly 48 years ago. I explain this first, because all themes in my paintings are derived directly from these three facts, more the first two than the later.

My work is an ongoing autobiography. Dreams, Legends of Mexico, and personal fantasies are the principal sources for my imagery. Holding nostalgic ideas about my past and frustration for the things which I am not able to re-live, I try to experience things again through the illusions I create. Through my work, I try to interpret the meaning to myself; I try to understand how my past relates to the world I am living in now and I try to tell a story to anybody who would like to see it.
