Norbert Schling

A self-taught South African Artist born from German parents who immigrated to South Africa in the early 50’s.

Born on the East Rand in 1964 where he grew up and did Matric at the Hoërskool Hoogland. Studied BA linguistics and horticulture and worked as landscaper for 17 years. Due to developing malignant melanomas had to give up the career in horticulture as the harsh South African sun was taking its toll.

Norbert as a child always preferred paints and crayons to any toys and always did art as a hobby and completed his first oil painting at the age of 10. After the career in horticulture and the forced retirement of this profession pursued a career in art.

He started an art school in Brakpan, where his students always received highest accolades at national and international art contests, and some have started their very own very successful art schools.

Norbert very successfully entered the international market with exhibitions in Hamburg, Taipei, Singapore and the United States of America.

Norbert for the first time in South Africa exhibits his art at the Studio 14 gallery he opened in Cullinan just outside Pretoria recently. The Art School continues in Cullinan and Norbert also does corporate team building workshops with art country wide
