Nicholai Khan

Bio

Nicholai Khan was born in Trinidad and Tobago and moved to New York City as a child. He received formal training from the Fashion Institute of Technology, but, to give his work more dimensions, he researches quantum mechanics, meditation, and studies with religious leaders and spiritual healers. He displays his painting collections at international galleries in New York City, Paris and London and as street art murals. Various art publications and newspapers have recognized Nicholai. He wrote and illustrated the picture book Nicho the Tiger: Create Your World. He volunteers at schools and community youth programs to teach the value of creativity and focus teen aggression into constructive outlets like art.

Artist Statement

Art is everything to me. Anything that is formed from inspired thought brings us to a higher state of being. My pieces start with a flash or thought of an image in my mind, leading me to obsess over the coming creation. Yet my mind works on numerous concepts at the same time. Anything that will help is used during the creative process. I’ve used a wide range of materials and mediums, including spray paint, oil paints, glue, wood filler, markers, walls, already painted canvases, wood, plants, rivets and metal based paints. I am influenced by the bright colors and celebrations of my Caribbean hometown, the street and pop art surrounding New York City, and the masters Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, and Andy Warhol. My goal is to inspire others to follow their dreams and create.
