Sala Faruq

Over the years, Sala Faruq has tried drawing, painting, screen printing and etching, but nothing excites her as much as creating art with gourds. She affirmed her love of gourd crafting in 2003 and has been producing gourd creations ever since. Capturing the essence of the gourd and transforming it into elegant works of art is her primary goal. Additionally, Faruq is compelled to create works that challenge expectations of what gourd crafting can be. She designed figurative pieces and vessels initially. Faruq started working on a line of distinctive gourd jewelry in 2006 after being captivated by the book, “1000 Rings: Inspiring Adornments for the Hand.” In 2012, she added gourd fashion accessories and a line of gourd home decor items to her creative repertoire.
