Salman Kashefi is a painter and thinker whose work drifts between the visible and the invisible. Rooted in a poetic tradition of inquiry, his paintings emerge from an inner dialogue with metaphysical thought — each canvas a quiet meditation on essence, perception, and the unseen. Educated in fine arts at the University of Tehran, Kashefi’s process is as much philosophical as it is painterly, with forms that unfold like questions, and textures that echo the weight of silence. His ongoing project, The Study of Essence, reflects a search for meaning beyond appearances — a visual language shaped by doubt, revelation, and devotion.
An interdisciplinary, multi-phase research project examining the limitations of sensory perception and the metaphysical quest for truth. Drawing extensively from Islamic metaphysics and epistemology, the project synthesizes critical theoretical writing and a parallel body of paintings. Each artwork operates both as a formal visual study and an extension of the philosophical discourse underpinning the project.
