Akwasi Gyambibi's compositions explore universal themes of culture, race, politics and religion.
"Life inspires what i depict," states Gyambibi."
The wood surface is where i express my deepest emotions, thoughts and experiences... my style is a free-hand decorating on wood with controlled application of fire from a torch or heat gun directly onto wood to creates textures to define my works, (bringing).. something beautiful, healing and (offering) respite, to the world."
These works are sometimes embellished with other materials including tapestry, wallpaper, ornaments, and often embellished with acrylic paint.
Akwasi Gyambibi is my name. I was born and nurtured in a city called Tema, Ghana. Currently residing in New York city, Queens.
I found the necessary happiness of childhood pleasure and entertainment through drawing and painting. This was the only activity that draws joy from my innermost self.
Over the past couple years; Akwasi's works have been exhibited in Ghana, Upstates New York, London, Dubai etc. I hope to communicate and connect with the world and to create a relationship with viewers that's transcends beyond on the wood.
