She continues to explore how creativity can be a force for both healing and advocacy. Born in Italy and now based in the UK, Laura Bernardeschi Nelson is a contemporary artist working across painting, mixed media, and written word. Her career is defined by exploration and reinvention: from early work in photography and modeling to her transition into fine art, Laura’s journey has been guided by a deep commitment to expression and storytelling. Since 2018, Laura has exhibited in solo and group shows across the UK and internationally, with her works appearing in galleries, curated art fairs, and online auctions. Her paintings combine acrylics, oil pastels, collage, and found textures, creating layered narratives that address both the intimate and the universal. Recurring themes include self-portraiture as a site of transformation, the fragility and strength of the human condition, and the urgent call for environmental consciousness. Laura’s practice is not limited to the visual: she is also an author. Her memoir Paper and Fire: An Artist’s Journey Through Change weaves personal history with creative growth, while Mixed Media and Climate Awareness: Laura’s Impactful Art articulates her environmental engagement through painting. Recognized on platforms such as Saatchi Art, MutualArt, and in publications like ArtistCloseUp, Laura continues to expand her reach to collectors, institutions, and wider audiences. Her art stands at the intersection of vulnerability and activism, seeking to leave a trace of hope, healing, and resilience. Artist Statement My work begins where words fall short: in the textures of paint, the layering of mixed media, and the visceral immediacy of color. I create as both witness and participant in a world marked by fragility and resilience. Self-portraiture has been a recurring lens through which I explore transformation. By revisiting my own image, I reveal not vanity but vulnerability — the shifting self as metaphor for collective change. Alongside this, I weave in landscapes and abstract forms that echo the broader concerns of climate and environment. Working in acrylics, oil pastels, and experimental textures, I am drawn to the tension between softness and urgency, stillness and disruption. In this, painting becomes a space where healing and activism meet. I believe art can hold contradictions — it can be both deeply personal and politically charged, tender yet insistent. My aim is to create work that resonates beyond the canvas, inviting viewers to reflect on their own transformations and responsibilities in a world that demands care, empathy, and awareness.
In March of this year, during a period of deep personal crisis and recovery from a mental health breakdown, I found myself unable to return to the vibrant, Pop Art-inspired women with red hair who had long inhabited my canvases. Their bold energy no longer reflected the silence I was seeking within.
Instead, I turned inward — and outward — toward the natural world, toward meditation, and toward quiet spiritual figures that seemed to emerge from the landscapes of my imagination. Working with oil pastels, I allowed softness, spontaneity, and simplicity to guide me.
“Sacred Light in Pastel” is the result of that turning point. These works are not only about the divine in nature, but about the journey back to peace — about listening to the stillness, finding beauty in slowness, and reconnecting with the soul.
Each piece is an invitation to pause, breathe, and feel the sacred light that lives both within and around us.
Tempest at Dusk
Artist: Laura Bernardeschi Nelson
Medium: Oil Pastels on Paper
Finish: Varnished for protection and subtle sheen
Size: 40x30 cm (framed)

Original Artwork: One of a kind
In Tempest at Dusk, the ocean churns under a restless sky, its surface shifting with deep blues and foaming whites. The horizon glows with a sudden blaze of gold, a fleeting moment of light breaking through storm-laden clouds. The scene holds both turbulence and transcendence, where nature’s power and beauty collide.
Created with oil pastels and layered in sweeping, textured strokes, this piece captures the immediacy of the storm—the energy of wind and water, the drama of sky and sea. The varnished finish lends a subtle sheen, enhancing the depth of color and movement within the work.
This original artwork by Laura Bernardeschi Nelson speaks to those who are drawn to the sea’s untamed spirit and the ever-changing moods of the natural world. It is both a window into the storm and a meditation on resilience, light, and transformation.
“Echoes of the Earth by Laura Bernardeschi Nelson”
This compelling artwork by Laura Bernardeschi Nelson, rendered in oil pastels on paper, is a profound and visually rich exploration of the symbiotic relationship between humanity and the natural world. Measuring 30x40 cm and presented in a clean white frame, the piece is a vibrant and tactile conversation that embodies the artist's deep spiritual connection to the earth.
Bernardeschi Nelson's choice of oil pastels is central to the artwork's expressive power. The medium allows for a direct, intuitive application of color, creating a dynamic surface with a rich, painterly texture. She builds up layers of pastel to give the foliage and the roots a sense of organic volume, while also using techniques like sgraffito—etching into the pastel to reveal underlying colors—to create delicate, life-like details in the branches and roots. The palette is dominated by lush greens and earthy browns, grounded by the deep, gnarled roots at the base of the composition. This groundedness provides a sense of stability and ancient wisdom, while the vibrant greens and blues of the foliage represent life, growth, and renewal.
The central figure is a serene, feminine presence deeply intertwined with the tree. The figure's body seamlessly becomes the tree's trunk, her hair and arms the branches, and her feet the roots. This is not simply a representation of a figure in nature, but a powerful visual metaphor for a complete and total union. The figure's face, a striking focal point, exhibits a classic profile with idealized features—a straight nose, a gentle mouth, and a tranquil, closed-eyed expression. This classical elegance, reminiscent of ancient Greek or Roman art, is a deliberate choice. It situates the figure outside of a specific time or place, suggesting that this sacred connection between the feminine and nature is an ancient, enduring truth that echoes through history. The figure is a timeless archetype of Mother Nature, a quiet but powerful force.
The title, Echoes of the Earth, serves as a key to the artwork's philosophical core. It suggests that the earth communicates with us in a language that is not always verbal but is felt and heard on a deeper, spiritual level. The figure, in her state of serene communion, is listening to and embodying these echoes. The artwork is a reflection of Bernardeschi Nelson's personal journey, where she uses her art to connect with and heal through the natural world. It is a work that speaks to the idea that our own well-being is intrinsically tied to the health of our planet. By portraying the figure as one with the tree, the artist challenges the viewer to reconsider their own relationship with nature, to see it not as a separate entity to be exploited, but as an extension of ourselves.
This piece is a gentle but firm call to introspection and reverence. It asks us to look for the "echoes" in our own lives, to find our roots, and to recognize the sacredness of the natural world. It is a reminder that in finding our connection to the earth, we can find a profound sense of peace and belonging. The artwork is a beautiful testament to the artist's belief in the healing power of nature and the enduring strength of the feminine spirit.
“Whispers Beneath the Golden Sky by Laura Bernardeschi Nelson”
Title: "Whispers Beneath the Golden Sky"
Medium: Oil Pastel on Paper
Dimensions (approx.):
Artwork: 36 x 38 cm
Framed: 46 x 36 cm
Framed: Yes — sold framed as pictured
Year: 2025
Style: Contemporary Landscape / Measured Impressionism
Surface: Acid-Free Heavyweight Paper
Technical Description
Whispers Beneath the Golden Sky is a richly layered oil pastel work created with deliberate technical control and an emotional, symbol-driven palette. The composition invites viewers into a dreamlike, meandering forest path under a star-spangled night sky. A golden-yellow trail curves with rhythm and intention through wild grasses and trees, vanishing into an ethereal horizon of glowing orbs and swirling midnight tones.
Medium: The artist uses only premium-quality oil pastels, applied directly to heavyweight acid-free paper. The surface holds each layer with clarity and intensity, preserving the vibrancy of each pigment. No underdrawing or digital manipulation was employed—every stroke is physical, intentional, and tactile.
Technique & Texture: Various mark-making tools were used—from sharpened pastel edges for linear structure to flat, rounded pressure for diffuse areas. The layering process involves alternating translucent and opaque applications, built over time to create a lush, painterly surface with visible directionality. No smudging was used; instead, pressure and overlaying were used to maintain chromatic purity.
Color & Composition: The pathway’s golden hue—echoing Klimt’s luminous aesthetic—functions as both a literal trail and a metaphorical thread, guiding the viewer into the artwork. Contrasting deep ultramarine blues and starlit yellows in the sky pay homage to the emotive nightscapes of early modernism, while still rooted in a contemporary context. Each circular star form and tree arc subtly echoes the Golden Ratio, fostering a natural, intuitive balance.
Planning & Perspective: The composition was pre-mapped in thumbnail studies to ensure harmonic proportion and control over flow. Foreground elements such as wildflowers and tree trunks use warmer tones and clearer edges, while cooler, desaturated hues draw the eye into the recessive space of the night forest. The path curves with natural asymmetry, creating a visual tempo—slow, quiet, inward.
Philosophical & Artistic Intent
Inspired by Gustav Klimt’s golden period and his use of ornament as symbol, Whispers Beneath the Golden Sky aims to evoke a space between waking and dreaming. It is not a landscape seen, but a landscape remembered or longed for—a silent forest where one walks not to arrive but to be enveloped.
The glowing forms in the sky suggest celestial bodies, memories, or even guiding spirits. They are not fixed to any one interpretation, but designed to offer the viewer a gentle sense of connection—perhaps to the universe, or to their own internal quietude.
The golden path is central both visually and metaphorically. It stands as a symbol of continuity, warmth, and introspection. In a world of distraction and speed, this piece offers a contemplative moment—a still corridor lit by inner light. It is an invitation to wander and listen.
Collector’s Note
Whispers Beneath the Golden Sky comes framed as pictured and is ready to hang. It is a unique, one-of-a-kind piece—no prints or reproductions exist. The artist’s signature is visible on the front, and the work will include a signed certificate of authenticity.
This work will appeal to collectors who are drawn to emotionally resonant landscapes, the tactility of pastel, and the evocative blending of classical and contemporary influences. Ideal for intimate interior spaces where art is meant to be not just seen, but felt.
“The Season Between Worlds – Original Oil Pastel Dreamscape by Laura Bernardeschi Nelson”
Step into a dreamlike forest where autumn glows with mystery and quiet beauty. The Season Between Worlds is an original oil pastel artwork reflecting trees across a shimmering lake, where soft violets, dusky blues, and rose hues create an otherworldly atmosphere. Golden flecks dance through the scene, suggesting snowfall or starlight, as if nature itself is caught between night and another world.
Between Sky and Sea is an original oil pastel dreamscape that captures a fleeting moment where earth, water, and sky meet in harmony and tension. A lone tree bends dramatically in the wind, its branches swept toward the horizon as waves churn in luminous shades of blue, green, and white. Overhead, birds ride the currents of twilight, while golden flecks drift across the scene like sparks of starlight or fireflies, adding a touch of the mystical.
“Whispers of Light by Laura Bernardeschi Nelson ”
Whispers of Light is an original oil pastel artwork inspired by the Impressionist masters, in particular Claude Monet. The surface of a tranquil pond becomes a stage for fleeting reflections, where shifting tones of turquoise, violet, and soft grey meet the glow of luminous highlights. Yellow and pink water lilies drift across the water’s surface, their delicate forms dissolving gently into color and movement.
The true subject here is not only the flowers but the dance of light upon water—ever-changing, shimmering, and impossible to hold. The impressionist spirit lives in the strokes of pastel, where suggestion replaces detail and emotion rises from atmosphere. This piece invites the viewer to pause and contemplate the transient beauty of nature, as if catching the quiet breath of time itself.

I’ve always found the sea to be a kind of memory.
It doesn’t hold anything forever.
But it doesn’t forget either.
This painting came to me after a dream where I stood alone on a beach, the waves restless, the sky heavy, and something dark washed up on the sand. I couldn’t tell if it was a bottle, a stone, or something else. But it felt like a message—unfinished, maybe unreadable.
In painting it, I didn’t try to define the object too clearly. I wanted to leave that choice to the viewer. It could be a bottle with a letter never delivered. Or it could be a part of ourselves, some piece we let go of long ago, now returned without a name.
The brushstrokes in the water are loose, layered, and full of movement. I used softer transitions in the sky to let it stretch into something vast and open.
This piece belongs to my ongoing exploration of landscapes as inner places—travel not only across the world but into the stories we carry, and sometimes abandon, along the way.

Artist: Laura Bernardeschi Nelson
Medium: Acrylic on canvas with wood shavings hand-applied to the surface
Dimensions: 60 x 80 x 2 cm
Signed: Front and reverse
Presentation: Unframed, edges painted, ready to hang
The Path Beyond Noise is a contemplative forestscape in which Laura Bernardeschi Nelson captures the serene depth of an autumnal woodland using layered acrylics and embedded wood shavings, creating a tactile bridge between the artwork and the natural world it portrays. The added organic material subtly enhances the surface, grounding the painting in physical nature and reinforcing the artist’s long-standing pursuit of reconnecting art to the environment.
Tall tree trunks create a vertical rhythm that guides the viewer’s gaze toward a softly illuminated vanishing point. Warm tones—burnt sienna, crimson, and soft ochres—intertwine with cooler touches of pale blue and delicate light effects to evoke the crisp quiet of a forest floor in autumn. The layered technique allows the foliage to shimmer while textured shadows stretch across the path, forming a scene that feels both peaceful and alive.
As with much of Laura’s work, the painting extends beyond landscape. It is a meditation on solitude, clarity, and the soul’s deep desire to escape the noise of modern life—gossip, superficiality, and societal pressure—and return to the grounding presence of Mother Nature. The forest becomes symbolic: the trees, stoic and unjudging; the light, a gentle form of understanding; the path, a guide toward inner stillness.
The addition of real wood shavings reinforces the theme of climate awareness by physically reincorporating elements of the natural world into the artwork, reminding us of the delicate ecosystems we risk losing. Through The Path Beyond Noise, Nelson invites viewers to step into a quiet, sacred space—one where authenticity, reflection, and environmental connection can be rediscovered.

“The Door Between Worlds by Laura Bernardeschi Nelson ”
The Door Between Worlds
Oil pastel on paper, 45 × 35 cm — framed, signed, varnished
Artist: Laura Bernardeschi Nelson
The Door Between Worlds portrays a dreamlike journey through a forest where reality and imagination seem to merge. A blue-green wooden walkway stretches forward, guiding the viewer toward a solitary door standing at the edge of a glowing, fiery woodland. The surrounding trees blaze with deep pinks, reds, and golds, suggesting a world in transformation — intense, alive, and slightly dangerous.
The mysterious door has no visible destination and appears to rise organically from the trees themselves, as if grown rather than built. It invites the viewer to wonder:
Where does it lead?
What lies beyond?
Is this a threshold to memory, escape, renewal, or something yet unknown?
Through expressive strokes, high contrast, and a powerful interplay of warm and cool tones, the artwork evokes both suspense and curiosity. It becomes a metaphor for inner transitions — a moment in life where one must choose whether to step forward into uncertainty or remain where things feel familiar.
This piece blends mystical storytelling with environmental sensitivity, continuing Laura Bernardeschi Nelson’s exploration of the emotional landscapes that lie between nature and the human spirit.
“Winter Dream Sunset by Laura Bernardeschi Nelson ”
Winter Dream Sunset
Oil pastel on paper, 45 × 35 cm — framed, signed, varnished
Artist: Laura Bernardeschi Nelson
Winter Dream Sunset unfolds like a vision from a half-remembered dream—an icy landscape illuminated by a breathtaking burst of colour. A vast frozen lake stretches forward, catching the luminous reflection of a glowing sun that descends behind a forest of dark, skeletal trees. The fiery reds, oranges, and pinks of the sky melt upward into soft blue and turquoise, creating a sky that feels alive, shifting, and impossibly vibrant.
The winter trees stand like silent guardians on the horizon, their elongated reflections dripping into the icy water. The sun itself appears almost mythical—wrapped in swirling bands of light, as if the world is exhaling warmth for a moment before returning to cold stillness.
The composition balances tranquility with drama:
The cool blues of the foreground evoke frozen quiet and calm.
The burning sky speaks of intensity, emotion, and transformation.
The mirror-like reflection ties both worlds together, blurring the line between waking and dreaming.
In this landscape, winter is not bleak—it is radiant, magical, and full of wonder. Through expressive strokes and rich colour layering, Laura Bernardeschi Nelson creates a dreamscape where nature becomes a living poem, inviting the viewer to step inside the heart of a winter sunset and linger in its warmth.

Welcome
Artist: Laura Bernardeschi Nelson
Medium: Oil Pastels on Paper
Dimensions: Approximately 25 x 35 cm (framed)
Year: 2025
Framing: Sold Framed
Finish: Varnished
Signature: Signed on front and back
Description:
"Welcome" by Laura Bernardeschi Nelson is a striking and psychologically charged work that flips the idea of hospitality into something ominous. A strange, looming figure with exaggerated, hollow eyes appears at the threshold — part mask, part specter — offering not comfort, but confrontation. Below, the word "WELCOME" is scrawled in urgent red, a false invitation that leaves the viewer unsettled.
Set within an eerie, shadow-stained interior, the use of oil pastels creates a raw, textural tension, while the palette of bruised purples, smudged blacks, and ghostly reds channels the spirit of Halloween and themes of the uncanny. This is a scene where the domestic turns dark, and perception blurs between protection and peril.
A haunting portrayal of emotional dissonance, Welcome explores the contradiction of familiar spaces becoming threatening — a concept that resonates deeply with modern anxieties around safety, identity, and the masks we wear.
Why This Work Stands Out:
A bold reinterpretation of the traditional welcome — deeply unsettling and conceptually rich
Evokes Halloween's duality of trick and treat, surface and shadow
Taps into themes of domestic dread, psychological horror, and the surreal
Created by a female artist using expressive oil pastel techniques with evocative impact
Framed, varnished, and ready to display — signed both front and back for authenticity

Veiled Enigma
Artist: Laura Bernardeschi Nelson
Medium: Oil pastels on paper

Description:
In Veiled Enigma, Laura Bernardeschi Nelson brings to life a mysterious figure that seems to step out of a dream. Draped in a plume-adorned hat and a delicate dotted veil, the woman with blue hair carries both elegance and secrecy. Her half-closed eyes invite the viewer into a private world where fantasy and history intermingle.
Rendered in rich oil pastels, the textured surface glows with vibrant hues of violet, azure, and gold. The composition echoes both the theatricality of Venetian masks and the intimacy of portraiture, creating a sense of timeless enchantment.
This work is part of Nelson’s ongoing exploration of identity, concealment, and transformation—an artwork that speaks in whispers, yet leaves a lasting impression.
My work explores the delicate balance between human creation and ecological decline. Through mixed media, found objects, recycled plastic, oil pastels, spray paint, and acrylic colours, I transform discarded materials into poetic reflections on the changing climate.
Each piece speaks to the fragility of life within polluted environments — ocean creatures dissolving into translucent layers, corroded textures suggesting melting ice or vanishing landscapes. The contrast between luminous colour and industrial waste mirrors the tension between beauty and destruction.
By reimagining waste as part of the visual language, I aim to confront the viewer with both the wonder and the urgency of the natural world. My art becomes a dialogue between resilience and loss — a visual archive of our shared environmental memory.

“Only Together by Laura Bernardeschi Nelson”
Only Together
Oil pastels on paper, 45 × 35 cm
Framed, varnished, and signed on front and back
Laura Bernardeschi Nelson (2025)
In Only Together, Laura Bernardeschi Nelson transforms a reference to Michelangelo’s Creation of Adam into a contemporary meditation on cooperation, climate change, and renewal. Using rich layers of oil pastel on textured paper, she builds a tactile surface where gesture, color, and symbolism intertwine.
At the heart of the composition, two hands reach toward one another across a vortex of elemental energy — earth, air, fire, and water — rendered in dynamic swirls of blue, green, and warm ochre. From their near-touch emerges a fragile red flower, a symbol of regeneration and hope amid aridity. The piece suggests that the act of creation today is no longer divine alone, but collective: only through mutual care and collaboration between humankind and nature can the cycle of life be sustained.
Nelson’s technique merges expressive drawing with painterly layering. The use of oil pastels allows for a sensuous blending of tones, while the paper’s surface retains a raw, organic texture. The artist’s signature color transitions — from cool blues symbolizing water and veins to the fiery reds and oranges of dry earth — evoke both struggle and harmony among the natural elements. The varnish enhances depth and luminosity, sealing the pastels while preserving their vibrant energy.
Artist’s Statement
“This work speaks of connection — between people, between humanity and nature. The two hands represent both creation and responsibility. The flower that grows between them is fragile, but it is also proof that even in arid times, life can emerge if we act together.”
“Roots Renewal by Laura Bernardeschi Nelson”
Roots of Renewal
Oil pastels and recycled materials on paper, 45 × 35 cm
Framed, varnished, and signed on front and back
Laura Bernardeschi Nelson (2025)
In Roots of Renewal, Laura Bernardeschi Nelson merges expressive mark-making with ecological consciousness, creating a work that is both painterly and sculptural. Using rich layers of oil pastels, she captures the vitality of a great tree spreading its branches and roots across a luminous, living landscape. At the base, a black recycled net—once a discarded object—has been integrated into the surface, symbolizing the interconnectedness between human waste and the natural cycles of regeneration.
The composition evokes strength and continuity: the roots extend beyond the paper, anchoring the image in a tactile reality. The recycled net, rough yet harmoniously absorbed into the pastel texture, reminds viewers that nothing is truly lost in nature—everything can be reclaimed, transformed, and renewed. Nelson’s technique elevates humble materials into a poetic statement about sustainability and creative reuse.
Vibrant greens, golds, and earthen tones blend with the depth of the pastels’ velvety texture, producing an atmosphere both serene and powerful. The work stands as a testament to resilience and hope in the face of environmental degradation—an invitation to see art as a form of restoration.
Dimensions: 45 × 35 cm
Medium: Oil pastels and recycled net on heavy paper, varnished
Condition: Original artwork, signed on front and back, framed and ready to hang
Artist’s Statement
“This tree carries our shared memory—it grows from what has been left behind. The net at its base comes from human discard, but here it becomes part of life again. I want this work to speak about responsibility and the beauty of renewal: anything used can be reused, even in art.”
“After the Fire by laura Bernardeschi Nelson ”
After the Fire
Oil pastels and recycled materials on paper, 45 × 35 cm
Framed, varnished, and signed on front and back
Laura Bernardeschi Nelson (2025)
In After the Fire, Laura Bernardeschi Nelson explores the fragile threshold between destruction and regeneration within the natural world. A forest stands shrouded in rose and ember tones, its vertical forms blurred by heat and smoke. At the base of the image, a tangle of black recycled netting evokes the charred remnants of undergrowth—both scar and seed of renewal.
The work speaks directly to the environmental crises of our time: the recurring wildfires that reshape ecosystems and test the resilience of life itself. Yet within the intensity of the pinks, reds, and ochres lies a quiet pulse of hope—the suggestion that even amid devastation, nature carries the memory of rebirth.
Nelson’s use of oil pastels allows for velvety transitions and luminous color fields that vibrate between warmth and mourning. The inclusion of recycled netting once again links her material practice to the theme of sustainability, transforming waste into metaphor. The varnish unifies the surface, amplifying the tension between fragility and endurance.
Dimensions: 45 × 35 cm
Medium: Oil pastels and recycled net on paper, varnished
Condition: Original work, signed front and back, framed and ready to hang
Artist’s Statement
“I painted this forest as a memory of survival. The black net represents what is left behind—the ashes, the remains—but also the roots of a new beginning. Even destruction can be the ground for renewal if we learn to protect and restore what we have burned.”

Threads of Survival is an original mixed-media artwork created on a reclaimed wooden kitchen door, reflecting the artist’s belief that everything can become art. The network of cords creates a visual tension across the surface, symbolizing the fragile web of life and the interconnectedness of all living things. Real leaves and dried flowers are woven into this structure, merging organic beauty with commentary on ecological fragility.
This work belongs to Laura Bernardeschi Nelson’s Climate Change Series, an ongoing exploration of sustainability and the transformation of discarded materials into art with emotional and ethical depth. The work speaks of transformation and surrender — the moment when human touch ceases to dominate and instead merges with the pulse of nature. It is an appeal, at once intimate and universal: save the nature, before it slips through our fingers.

Title: The Vanishing Current
Artist: Laura Bernardeschi Nelson
Medium: Oil pastels on paper
Size: 45 x 35 cm (framed)

“The Last Forest by laura Bernardeschi Nelson”
Title: The Last Forest
Artist: Laura Bernardeschi Nelson
Medium: Oil pastels on paper
Size: 45 × 35 cm
Finish: Varnished and framed
Signed: Yes
Description:
The Last Forest portrays a haunting vision of a world altered by climate change. At the centre, a dense cluster of dark, towering trees stands enclosed within a circular boundary — a fragile sanctuary, as if these are the final living guardians of a once-flourishing landscape. Outside the circle, the land is stripped bare, branches twisted and lifeless. A single dead tree lies at the base of the composition, its form echoing a warning of what has already been lost.
Rendered in expressive, layered oil pastels, the artwork contrasts the heavy, shadowed greens of the surviving forest with the stark, empty earth surrounding it. Small flecks of golden leaves drift through the air, hinting at both memory and decay. The piece holds tension between hope and mourning: nature still breathes, but only within the boundaries humans have left it.
A powerful statement on environmental fragility, The Last Forest invites the viewer to reflect on responsibility, resilience, and the urgent need to protect what remains alive.
“Scars of the Green Planet by Laura Bernardeschi Nelson ”
Scars of the Green Planet
Artist: Laura Bernardeschi Nelson
Medium: Oil pastels on paper
Dimensions: 45 x 35 cm (framed)
Details: Varnished and signed on both front and back
Description:
Scars of the Green Planet reflects the irreversible wounds inflicted upon our Earth through human carelessness and environmental neglect. The swirling blues evoke both water and smoke — elements that should sustain life, now caught in turmoil.
Laura Bernardeschi Nelson uses rich oil pastels to convey texture, movement, and emotion. Each line and color seems to vibrate with tension between life and loss. The work invites reflection on how our collective actions leave deep marks on nature — marks that may one day become permanent scars on the planet we call home.

“Whispers of a Changing Earth”
Whispers of a Changing Earth
By Laura Bernardeschi Nelson
Acrylics and spray paint on stretched canvas with carved wood, pine cones, dried leaves, and flowers – 70 × 50 cm
Varnished, signed front and back, ready to hang
In Whispers of a Changing Earth, I continue my exploration of the dialogue between art and environment—a recurring theme in my Climate Change Collection. This work is both a painting and a tactile composition, where natural materials are not just decorative but integral to the story.
Using acrylic colours as a foundation, I layered brushstrokes to create the impression of lush foliage, vibrant light, and shadowed roots. The painting is then transformed through the addition of real natural fragments—small pieces of carved wood, pine cones, dried leaves, and delicate flowers. These elements connect the artwork to the physical world it represents, allowing the texture of nature itself to become part of the narrative.
This technique reflects a central idea in my artistic practice: that nature and art are inseparable, and that by blending them, we can sense both the beauty and fragility of our planet. The contrast between painted illusion and real organic material highlights what is at stake in the era of climate change—the fading boundary between what is alive and what has been lost.
My Climate Change Collection began as a personal response to witnessing the gradual transformation of landscapes I love. Over time, it has evolved into a form of visual storytelling, documenting the emotional and ecological shifts of our environment. Each piece captures a moment in this ongoing dialogue—between resilience and decay, hope and urgency.
Through texture, colour, and natural matter, I aim to remind viewers that every leaf and fragment carries a story of time, survival, and transformation. Whispers of a Changing Earth is both a celebration of nature’s enduring spirit and a quiet call for awareness, reflection, and care.
The Silent Drowning
By Laura Bernardeschi Nelson
Acrylic and found objects on stretched canvas – 70 × 50 cm
Includes symbolic netting, metal can, batteries, and assorted plastics
Varnished and signed front and back – ready to hang
Description:
The Silent Drowning is a haunting reflection on the human impact on our oceans — a symbolic narrative of suffocation and survival.
In this mixed-media piece, layers of acrylic paint evoke the vibrant yet troubled depths of the sea. The surface is interwoven with a black net, not as a literal fishing tool but as a powerful symbol of entrapment — representing how nature itself has become caught in the web of human consumption. Trapped within the net are fragments of modern life: a crushed can, spent batteries, and pieces of plastic, all remnants of a disposable culture.
The black tones spreading across the composition suggest the presence of oil — a metaphor for contamination, greed, and the slow poisoning of marine life. Against the rich blue background, these elements form a striking contrast between beauty and decay, vitality and extinction.
This artwork is part of Laura Bernardeschi Nelson’s ongoing Climate Change Collection, a series that merges found materials and acrylic textures to explore the fragile bond between humans and the environment. Each work becomes both a statement and a memorial — a reminder of what is being lost beneath the surface.
The Silent Drowning calls on the viewer to look beyond colour and texture, to confront the reality of pollution and to sense the quiet anguish of the oceans that once sustained us.
Title: Oil, Coal, Gas
Artist: Laura Bernardeschi Nelson
Medium: Oil pastels on paper
Dimensions: 45 x 35 cm (framed)
Signed and varnished
Description:
This expressive oil pastel work by Laura Bernardeschi Nelson explores the destructive impact of fossil fuels on our planet. The three looming industrial forms—marked Oil, Coal, and Gas—spew thick fumes into a darkened sky, symbolizing the relentless flow of pollution and the human dependence on energy sources that harm the Earth’s fragile balance.
With bold strokes and intense color contrasts, the artist captures the emotional weight of industrialization and its contribution to the climate crisis. The piece belongs to the artist’s Climate Change Collection, which reflects on the urgent need for transformation, awareness, and collective responsibility.
Framed, signed, and varnished.
A striking environmental statement piece that invites reflection on the cost of progress and the future of our world.
“Before it is too late by laura Bernardeschi Nelson”
Title: Before It’s Too Late
Artist: Laura Bernardeschi Nelson
Medium: Mixed media (acrylics, oil pastels, spray paint, natural dried flower and fern)
Collection: Climate Change
Description:
Before It’s Too Late is a visceral mixed-media work that confronts the accelerating crisis of climate destruction. Using acrylics, oil pastels, and spray paint, Laura Bernardeschi Nelson constructs a haunting urban-industrial landscape where a family appears to suffocate beneath layers of smoke, fumes, and environmental collapse. The figures are deliberately rendered with softened, blurred features—symbolising the erasure of humanity within systems that prioritise fossil fuels over life.
Real dried flora—a fragile flower and a preserved fern—are embedded directly into the work. This gesture introduces a physical presence of nature that resists its own annihilation. Their brittleness becomes a quiet but powerful counter-argument to the surrounding imagery of oil, gas, and coal: a reminder that even in decay, nature carries an ancient resilience and a plea to be protected.
Scarlet text—HELP, STOP, and BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE—cuts through the composition like emergency sirens. The words are at once a warning, a protest, and a lament.
Philosophical Interpretation:
At its core, this artwork asks a fundamental question: What does it mean to be human in a world we are actively unmaking? The family’s struggle for breath becomes a universal metaphor for the human condition in the Anthropocene—an age where progress threatens the very air required for existence. The dried flower and fern operate as symbols of time itself: they are remnants of life, suspended between endurance and extinction, demanding viewers to confront their own position in the cycle of creation and destruction.
The piece proposes that nature is not a passive victim but a force with deep memory—one that outlives empires, industries, and the illusions of human control. Yet it also reminds us that our window to act is finite. The philosophical tension lies in this contradiction: the planet will persist, but will we?
A compelling addition to contemporary ecological art, Before It’s Too Late is both a warning and a witness, urging collective responsibility before disappearance becomes our shared fate.
Debris of Our Own Making
Artist: Laura Bernardeschi Nelson
Medium: Mixed media on canvas (wallpaper, gesso, North Sea sand, acrylics, parcel paper, real seaweeds, found fishing net, rope, spray-painted can)
Size: 80 × 100 cm
Presentation: Unframed, ready to hang
Artwork Description
Debris of Our Own Making is part of Laura Bernardeschi Nelson’s Climate Change collection, a series dedicated to exposing the fragile state of our oceans and the accelerating impact of human activity on marine ecosystems.
The artwork blends paint with authentic materials gathered along the North Sea shoreline—seaweed, tangled fishing nets, frayed rope, and sand—creating a textured seascape that shifts between beauty and disturbance. The pale, translucent “fish bellies,” crafted from parcel paper, evoke marine life washed ashore, while the dark spray-painted can stands as a stark symbol of oil pollution.
The composition merges natural and man-made debris, allowing the sea’s own remnants to become part of the artwork. This fusion turns the canvas into a physical archive of environmental harm, serving as a quiet yet powerful reminder of our collective responsibility for the oceans' decline.
Artist: Laura Bernardeschi Nelson
Medium: Acrylics, beach sand, dried flowers, glue, recycled CD (mixed media)
Surface: Canvas
Size: 80 × 60 × 2 cm
Signed: Front and back
Finish: Varnished for protection
Description
The Choice is a powerful mixed media artwork reflecting the delicate moment humanity is living through in the era of climate change. Painted in acrylics and enriched with natural and reclaimed materials such as beach sand, dried flowers, and an old CD, the piece becomes both a visual statement and a physical reminder of the world we are reshaping.
The composition is divided in two paths:
On the left, a hand holds a lighter, flames rising from the fingers. The trees are charred, symbolising destruction, deforestation, and the ongoing environmental damage driven by human behaviour.
On the right, another hand presents a flower. Here, tender green leaves begin to return, reminding us that regeneration and healing are possible if we choose differently.
At the centre sits a circular relief created from an old CD, representing Mother Nature. Her gaze is calm but watchful, observing humanity’s decisions without anger — offering us responsibility, not punishment. The circular form suggests the cycle of life, and that the future is still unwritten.
The textured path running through the forest invites the viewer to reflect on their own direction — a personal and collective journey where the decisions of today will determine what remains tomorrow.
This artwork blends expressive brushwork with tactile elements, making it both visually and emotionally engaging. It is a piece that speaks to everyone concerned with our planet’s future and the fragile balance between loss and hope.
“Erosion of Life by Laura Bernardeschi Nelson ”
Title: Erosion of Life: The Desert's Shadow
Artist: Laura Bernardeschi Nelson
Medium: Mixed Media (Acrylics, Glue, Sea Sand, Paper, Pasta on Stretched Canvas)
Erosion of Life: The Desert's Shadow is a powerful mixed-media artwork by Laura Bernardeschi Nelson, embodying the stark and haunting consequences of desertification. Through the innovative use of materials such as acrylic colors mixed with glue and sand collected from the North Sea, the artist explores the fragile relationship between nature and human impact.
The textured layers of paper—intertwined with pasta and glued onto stretched canvas—symbolize the degradation of once-fertile lands. The combination of these materials serves as a tactile representation of the land’s gradual erosion, emphasizing the vulnerability of the environment. The sandy tones, punctuated by silver streaks, reflect the dry, parched earth left behind as rivers and resources vanish.
The silver shadow that cuts across the canvas represents a dried riverbed, a visual metaphor for the destruction of vital water sources and the irreversible damage caused by desertification. The reflective quality of the silver highlights both the emptiness and the beauty that remains after the life-giving waters have receded.
Varnished for a sleek finish, this artwork is signed on both the front and back, ready to hang, and invites viewers to reflect on the environmental crises affecting our world today. It is an evocative, tactile, and thought-provoking piece that transcends the surface, urging contemplation on the pressing issue of climate change and land degradation.
Title: Scars of the Silent Forest (2025)
Artist: Laura Bernardeschi Nelson
Medium: Acrylic, spray paint, and wood shavings on stretched canvas
Dimensions: 60 x 80 x 2 cm
Signed: Front and reverse
Finish: Varnished
Presentation: Unframed but ready to hang
Scars of the Silent Forest forms part of Laura Bernardeschi Nelson’s climate-change collection, a body of work that confronts environmental destruction with emotional depth and visual intensity. This painting depicts a devastated woodland—trees cut down, burned, and left unreplaced. Their hollow stumps and charred remains stand as open wounds on the land, symbols of a forest silenced.
Using acrylics and spray paint, the artist creates a dark, atmospheric palette layered with swirling forms that evoke both instability and loss. The embedded wood shavings scattered across the surface physically reconnect the artwork to the natural world while emphasizing the fragility of what remains—tiny fragments of what once stood tall.
Haloed stumps glow with ghostly color shifts, while deep circular voids suggest the collapse of life systems and habitats. The distant line of thin, leafless trunks reinforces the narrative of abandonment and irreversible change.
With this mixed-media approach, Laura expresses both ecological destruction and its emotional echo—grief, emptiness, and the unsettling truth of a world altered by human impact.
Scars of the Silent Forest stands as a powerful reminder: when a forest is taken, the land remembers.
“Departure of the Forest by Laura Bernardeschi Nelson ”
Title: Departure of the Forest
Artist: Laura Bernardeschi Nelson
Medium: Mixed media — acrylic on canvas, spray paint, real pine cones and natural wood elements
Dimensions: 70 × 50 cm

Departure of the Forest blends painted atmosphere with real natural materials, creating a tactile dialogue between the canvas and the living world. Soft layers of acrylic and spray paint form an ethereal, misty landscape, while authentic pine cones and wood shavings emerge from the surface, grounding the work in the physical reality of the forest.
In this surreal scene, the trees appear to rise together as if preparing for departure—lifting away like a silent vessel leaving the planet behind. The work reflects on ecological fragility and the unsettling idea that one day nature itself may choose to escape the damage inflicted upon it.
Part of the Climate Change Collection, this piece invites viewers to imagine a future shaped by environmental loss and the possibility of nature’s exodus.
A unique, textured artwork with a strong sculptural presence, fully signed and varnished for preservation.
“Flames of Change by Laura Bernardeschi Nelson ”
Title: “Flames of Change”
Artist: Laura Bernardeschi Nelson
Medium: Mixed media — acrylic, spray paint, oil pastels, natural pine and dried fern
Dimensions: 70 × 50 cm
Signed and varnished — unframed
Flames of Change is a striking mixed-media portrait of Mother Nature in a moment of crisis and transformation. Her pale, age-white hair flows behind her like smoke, while real dried fern and pine elements form a natural mask over her face, blending her identity with the forest she protects. Branches grow from her body, turning her into a living tree-spirit—rooted, vulnerable, and enduring.
From her chest, intense red-orange flames rise upward, symbolizing both burning forests and the inner fire of menopause. The artwork draws a compelling connection between two upheavals:
the planet’s climate change and the “hot season” many women experience in their own lives.
Both involve rising temperatures, sudden shifts, loss, and the need to adapt. Both call for awareness before irreversible damage occurs.
A butterfly rests near her face—half dissolved in shadows, half emerging—representing transformation under pressure. Across her mouth, the word “STOP” appears, urging action and signaling the breaking point of both nature and the feminine body.
Using acrylic, spray paint, oil pastels, and tactile natural materials, Flames of Change blends emotional symbolism with environmental commentary. It is part of the artist’s Climate Change Collection and invites viewers to confront the fires that shape us collectively and personally.
“Half Life of a Warming World by Laura Bernardeschi Nelson ”
Title:
“Half-Life of a Warming World”
Description:
Half-Life of a Warming World is an original mixed-media portrait by contemporary artist Laura Bernardeschi Nelson, created using oil pastels, coloured pencils, and markers on heavy art paper. The surface has been professionally varnished to protect the pigments and enhance colour depth. The work is signed on both the front and the back, confirming authenticity, and comes framed (45 × 35 cm, ready to hang).
This striking composition is divided vertically into two halves, portraying the same figure in two different states. On the left, the face is youthful: smooth skin, warm orange hair, and vivid green eyes set against a lush green background. On the right, the face shows the passage of time: lines, texture, pale grey hair, and a background that shifts into earthy browns and burnt tones. This duality creates an immediate emotional impact, representing the intersection of human aging and environmental decline.
Bernardeschi Nelson uses vibrant colour transitions and contrasting textures to draw a parallel between the natural aging of the human body and the “aging” of our overheated planet. The fresh greens fade to dry browns; vitality gives way to fragility. Through this mirrored portrait, the artist suggests that climate change is not an abstract phenomenon but a process unfolding in real time—much like the subtle, then unmistakable marks that time leaves on the human face.
Half-Life of a Warming World is a contemplative, symbolic, and visually compelling artwork. It invites viewers to confront the shared vulnerability of both humanity and nature, and to reflect on the urgent need to preserve what is still vibrant before it becomes irreversibly aged.

“The Melting Mother by Laura Bernardeschi Nelson ”
Title:
“The Melting Mother”
(other strong options: “When Mountains Weep,” “Drowned Peaks,” “Mother Nature in Retreat,” “The Last Glacier Face”)
Description:
The Melting Mother is an original mixed-media work by Laura Bernardeschi Nelson, created with oil pastels, markers, and coloured pencils on quality paper, then varnished for protection and signed on both sides. It is sold framed (45 × 35 cm), ready to hang.
This evocative piece portrays an aged, solemn face emerging from a landscape of mountains that appear to dissolve into torrents of water. The figure represents Mother Nature herself—tired, weathered, and partly submerged as glacial melt pours over her like a veil. The cascading white-blue strokes evoke the rapid thaw of mountain snow, symbolising how the planet’s oldest and most stable features are now breaking down under the force of climate change.
Her expression, marked by deep lines and shadowed eyes, conveys both resilience and sorrow. She looks outward as if witnessing her own erosion. Behind her, the once-solid mountains dissolve into dark, streaked textures—hinting at burnt forests, unstable terrain, and ecosystems under stress. Below, rising waters creep upwards, threatening to swallow what remains.
Bernardeschi Nelson transforms the landscape into a living being, merging portraiture and nature to deliver a powerful message: when the mountains melt, Mother Nature herself disappears with them. The Melting Mother is a haunting reminder of the fragility of the earth’s oldest guardians.

“ Echoes of the Dolomites: The Sands of Change by Laura Bernardeschi Nelson ”
Title: Echoes of the Dolomites: The Sands of Change
Artist: Laura Bernardeschi Nelson
Year: 2025
Medium: Mixed Media on Stretched Canvas (80 x 60 cm)
Description:
Echoes of the Dolomites: The Sands of Change is a deeply personal and thought-provoking mixed-media artwork by Laura Bernardeschi Nelson. With a rich tapestry of textures and materials, Laura captures the profound shift in the landscapes she once cherished. Growing up spending summers in the Dolomites, her connection to the mountains runs deep. These majestic peaks, once covered in lush grass, towering trees, and pristine snow, have transformed. Now, they are blanketed with sand and soil, a symbol of the changing climate that she witnessed firsthand in her youth.
Laura's unique technique combines acrylics, gesso, glue, and ground coffee, imbuing the mountains and river with a tactile, almost geological texture. Real rocks, with their breaks and pores, are embedded into the canvas, adding a striking realism to the depiction of nature’s erosion. The sky above, painted using a mix of gesso, acrylics, glue, and beach sand found on a walk along the Northumberland coast, captures the ever-changing essence of the earth. Seaweed and sand, glued directly onto the surface, bring a sense of the world’s fragility and the impact of human actions on the environment.
This artwork reflects not only Laura’s childhood memories but also her urgent message about climate change. The once-glorious mountains, now barren and desolate, stand as a warning—humanity’s disregard for the planet is pushing the natural world towards extinction. The river that once flowed freely at the base of the mountains now dwindles, a silent testimony to the consequences of environmental neglect.
Unframed but ready to hang, Echoes of the Dolomites is a compelling piece that invites viewers to reflect on the delicate balance of nature and our role in its preservation. The texture, depth, and story woven into this work make it a powerful addition to any collection or space.
“The Last Bloom by Laura Bernardeschi Nelson ”
The Last Bloom
Oil pastel on paper, 45 × 35 cm — framed, signed, varnished
Artist: Laura Bernardeschi Nelson
The Last Bloom portrays a deeply evocative moment set within a dark, transforming forest. In the centre of a glowing passage of yellow light, a young girl offers a single flower to an elder figure—two silhouettes meeting in a moment that feels both timeless and urgent.
The surrounding trees close in like ancient witnesses, their forms blurred and roughened by years of drought and environmental change. The contrast between the shadowed forest and the warm halo around the figures heightens the sense of a rare, sacred exchange.
The flower becomes the axis of the story:
perhaps the final survivor of a dying landscape,
or perhaps the first sign of rebirth after a long period of absence.
A lone blue bloom in the foreground reinforces the fragile persistence of life. Through expressive strokes, layered textures, and an arresting play of light and shadow, the artwork speaks of intergenerational connection, ecological fragility, and the quiet hope that can still grow even when the world is changing.
