ARTIST STATEMENT

I am a German artist based in Los Angeles, working across a range of mediums, including sculptures, objects, and paintings. My practice is rooted in mixed media, where I explore the intersection of figurative representation, irony and narratives. The works I create often feature playful, sexual and nature elements, evoking figures and scenes that reference art history, pop culture, and everyday life in LA.

My paintings and sculptures combine vibrant colors and comic-like characters to create a world that feels both familiar and unsettling. I draw on childhood icons like Kermit, Max and Moritz, Pippi Longstocking and other early influences, capturing the innocence of youth while also inviting a deeper, more complex reaction.

In my sculptures, the main material is chewing gum. The act of chewing and spitting out material becomes a physical manifestation of the creative process itself—a process of transforming something discarded into something new and unique. This work speaks to the process of creation, as well as the human aspects of making art.

I repeatedly use the same elements and figures throughout my work, creating a series of interconnected pieces that explore the same motifs and ironic ideas. At the same time, my work navigates the ambivalence between beauty and provocation, striking a tension that both draws in and challenges the viewer. Each work marks a territory—an exploration of identity, culture, and the human experience through a lens that is both irreverent and sincere.
