Enrico Thanhoffer, known in the contemporary art world by his brand and pseudonym Fanty Building, is an Italian architect and artist whose work redefines the boundaries between structural design, digital art, and social provocation.
Born in Como on May 24, 1965, Thanhoffer developed a rigorous technical foundation at the Politecnico di Milano, where he studied Architecture. He further specialized his understanding of aesthetics and materials at the OIKOS in Bologna between 1993 and 1994, a pivotal experience that shaped his sensitivity toward color and texture.
In 2004, he established his professional studio in Como, focusing on architectural design and image consulting. Since 2014, he has served as the President of the Circolo Cultura e Arte Como, a role through which he actively promotes the intersection of traditional heritage and modern creativity.
Despite his classical training, Thanhoffer’s artistic evolution led him to found Globismo (Globism), a movement that rejects the "coldness" of the right angle in favor of the curve and the sphere. Under the moniker Fanty Building, he utilizes computer painting and digital techniques to create "Global Alarms"—visual signals that urge humanity to protect its intimacy and cultural heritage.
Thanhoffer is perhaps best known for his provocative concept of Mutanda Buildings. He posits that underwear is the "first architecture" inhabited by humans—a primary membrane of protection. By digitally "dressing" iconic monuments like the Colosseum or the Great Wall of China in lace or silk, he humanizes these rigid structures, highlighting their fragility in the face of time and neglect.
This philosophy extends into his interior design, where he transforms the human form into luminous sculptures. His chandeliers—featuring textures of silk, macramé, and lace—serve as functional art pieces that bring the warmth and irony of Globism into the domestic sphere.
Through Fanty Building, Enrico Thanhoffer continues to challenge the status quo of urban living. His work is a vibrant synthesis of his architectural expertise and a dreamlike, "fantastic" (Fanty) approach to construction, reminding us that the buildings we inhabit should be as soulful and protective as the clothes we wear.
