Farce Advertising

My work shines a humorous light onto contemporary culture through a tongue-in-cheek series of farce advertising. Imagery is collected through random internet searches for amusements such as, “WTF”, “OMG”, “Selfie”, “Epic Fail”, etc. I believe that these snap shots of society serve to capture us at our most vulnerable and authentic states. The images are then paired with variations on commercial marketing slogans, tag lines and catch phrases. I use this propaganda to emphasize the absurdity. The images and phrases are visually altered to produce a sort of faux advertisement. I structure the paintings like jokes. The set-up is achieved through the merging of text and imagery. The elements of color, shape and space are manipulated and distorted to provide the delivery. The completed paintings become my punch lines. Hopefully you laugh.
