Babbo Bricks is the artistic identity of Swiss artist Rolf Schaller, born in 1986. His work combines large-scale visual art, imagination and an extraordinary form of storytelling.
What began as a fascination with the almost limitless possibilities of interlocking building bricks of many kinds developed into a distinctive visual language. Every brick becomes a pixel, a detail and sometimes part of a story hidden within the larger image.
Remarkably, Schaller had never created an artwork of his own before. His first piece became his most ambitious project: Eye of the White Tiger. More than 30,000 elements and over 300 hours unite different generations of building bricks in one contemporary artwork.
The interaction between distance and proximity lies at the heart of his concept. The works are meant to be explored, not merely viewed. Childhood memories, imagination, family, pop culture and personal stories gain new meaning, piece by piece.
