Shi Li (Shi Zhigang), contemporary artist and poet.
Born in China. Lives and works in Beijing and Montreal.
Embracing his philosophy that "a true artist is one who
turns life into art!" Shi Li’s work is known for its distinct style and
numerous artistic transformations.
In recent years, he has explored the imagery and musicality
of poetry through classical oil painting materials and techniques. His concepts
integrate Western philosophy with Eastern mysticism from thinkers like Laozi
and Zhuangzi, reflecting a deep exploration of the meaning of life. His
inspiration is drawn from daily observations, reading, writing, and meditation.
His use of color and form is influenced by classical masters like Titian and
Impressionist painters, along with a deep admiration for Song and Yuan dynasty
paintings.
His artworks have been exhibited and collected in US,
Canada, Australia, Germany, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China. He was selected for
the 9th National Watercolor Exhibition and the 10th and 11th National Art
Exhibitions in China. He has received numerous international awards, including
cultural contribution awards from the Canadian Prime Minister and the House of
Commons.
