Alain Rouschmeyer

Alain Rouschmeyer

Location: France

Alain Rouschmeyer studied Fine Arts in Metz, graduated from the School of Decorative Arts in Strasbourg as well as the National School of Architecture in Lyon, an architect by training and an urban draftsman with a passion for sketching, he has been an artist since childhood. He is a painter of the living who draws his source from reality. He mainly paints on medium format canvases as windows opening onto an extravagant universe. As a good observer of the world, he analyzes the wandering of humans through crossed spaces and their gestures. This active approach allows him to capture the essence that animates everyday life and draw inspirational poetry from it. His artistic itinerary invites him to work in architecture in which he likes to reflect on living spaces and the transversalities that define their uses. Like an analytical poet, Alain Rouschmeyer's work navigates between reality and intimacy, revealing attachment and detachment according to a conscious will. He explores the hidden dimension of an everyday life that never ceases to challenge us like jazz music or warm blues. Improvisation remains an important aspect of his artistic language. Rhythm, counterpoint and the search for harmony sustain a free, vibrant and spontaneous painting. The painter manages to echo the noises of our lives. The romanticism of which he fully assumes the contemporary and timeless expression inhabits the support as an implied space. Between the experience of reality and fictitious images, the artist moves us by the closeness and sensitivity of his works.

PAINTING THE EMOTION OF A MOMENT TO SUBLIMATE...

Look, observe, experiment and imagine in order to always better perceive the things of life and day to day. The artist of an architectural universe never stops understanding and letting himself be seduced by the trajectory of the human being in certain spaces with this alternation of place and posture. The simplicity of a posture that becomes an accomplice of a space or a space that sublimates the presence of a passage. Like a love story, a peculiar attitude or a body whose meanings we sometimes ignore. In that jungle of signs, art is a tremendous revealer. Interpret, write, as to better define the possible fields between interior and exterior. It is this dimension that challenges the inside and the outside, the self and others, order and disorder, fullness and emptiness, or even image and history. They are those opposites that leave traces and determine the perception that we can have of them. The artist plays with the decoration both blurring it and sublimating it. The painting is in perpetual motion, time does not flow linearly. Cycles, comings and goings between forms and themes, seem to run through the entire work. Presence or absence to give free rein to the imagination of a story in one act or a triptych in three stages. This figurative waltz is enriched with the outline of a stolen moment, sometimes supported by a symbolic graphic design that redefines the limits of these opposites to decline a characterized obviousness. The artist frees himself from ties and opens new paths in representation. His ambivalent approach to the crossroads of reality and imagination is profoundly human. Like an exacerbated passion, the composition is an integral part of his work and becomes an accomplice in the coexistence of the subject and the support by involving it in his format. Like an unfinished lace, between classicism and timelessness, we are here invited to appropriate the living spaces in connection with our walks. Walking, walking is a suspended moment where we meet again to better lose ourselves along the paths of thought. That moment is what the painter manages to fix in his paintings.

The painting represents a woman standing in a contemporary dance posture and placed in the left part of the canvas. Her face marks the finality of great concentration and observes the ground at the very spot where three roses were thrown. Her graceful and determined posture is the finality of a triumphant performance. Her uncluttered style of dress is inspired by a contemporary romanticism that plays with the lighting of the scene. The background is dark and suggests the presence of spectators in a large room below. The pictorial technique of this acrylic work integrates a dimension of sketch to take back the features of the original drawing and reinforce the feeling of movement.

The work represents a woman standing in a contemporary dance posture and she is positioned on the right side of the canvas. Her face, partially in shadow, is smiling and her gestures invite in an elegant way to admire her performance which reminds of classical postures. The lighting contributes to bring a scenographic dimension that accentuates the reflections and the traces on the ground. The pictorial technique of this acrylic work integrates a dimension of sketch to reinforce the sensation of this rotating and pointed movement.

The painting represents a woman who practices contemporary dance and she is the main subject of the painting. Her posture and gestures define the basis of this practice of body expression. Her face, partially in shadow, conveys an emotional intensity related to her movement. The scenographic atmosphere and the light perfectly draw the contours of her silhouette. Acrylic and charcoal combined with a spontaneity of drawing collaborate to bring a sensation of accomplished movement.

The painting depicts a young woman sitting on the edge of a mountain stream, who has taken a seat on the surrounding rocks to cool her feet. We can see her in profile with a serene look on the imaginary and distant landscape. Her outfit, composed of black leather pants with reinforcements, indicates that her means of locomotion is the motorcycle. Two white butterflies go up the stream which brings a particular luminosity. The work done in acrylic is reinforced by a work in black stone and charcoal on the stonework part.

The work presents walkers in the sun, seen from behind. The setting is a vast expanse of sand with a landscape of hills in the distance with imprecise shapes. A group of three people is in the foreground, two women and a man. They are walking barefoot and we can see the tracks left in the sand. Another group precedes them and all have some sort of carrying equipment. The pictorial technique of this painting is composed of acrylic, charcoal, black stone and red chalk with a partial enhancement of an orange glaze to accentuate the effect of heat and sand particles.

The different groups had formed for the great crossing of these shores which linked the coast to the Mont Saint-Michel. The sand with its singular coloring let glimpse water sheets with bluish reflections. The landscape delivered a very particular atmosphere of a timeless beauty and tinted of unreal.

"Her shadow stretched out before her like the little girl she had been and who loved above all to offer her mother a bouquet of wild flowers that she picked in the meadow around the house. From now on she preferred to leave nature untouched, except that morning when on the path leading to the village square, this childhood memory came back to her at the sight of a large mauve carpet spotted with pale pink and bright yellow and waving in the breeze. So she had carefully plucked a few sprigs, now gathered in one hand while the other held a field knautie whose fresh spring scent she breathed in wistfully."

The young woman felt good in this water room with its uncluttered atmosphere and she could have stayed there for many hours. The light colors, the soft towels and the sober bath accessories brought to this place a pleasant serenity. She particularly liked the toiletry bag signed by a great fashion house, which evoked in her eyes an intimacy of the past.

For him, the day is far from over, but the lakeside has become his favourite refuge before his long evening of moving from table to table selling his carefully wrapped roses one by one. As has been his custom for some time, a familiar nostalgia brings him to this often deserted square as he finishes his first round. With his large shopping bag and the bucket of flowers beside him, he lies there, seemingly oblivious to his surroundings. And today, seeing him in his usual posture, I wonder: what is important is... the laughing seagull, the telephone and its possible messages, the mist that blurs the border between sky and water, or only the rose?

After initially thinking of putting the house up for sale, the children got together to reminisce about the unforgettable holidays they had spent there with their grandparents and finally decided against their initial decision: they would keep the old house and renovate it from top to bottom. So they had to demolish, and the shower room was the first space to be demolished. The demolition began...

The weather forecast was for a rainy weekend, perfect for sleeping in. The day before, she had put a few novels on her bedside table, including the one she had started. She had just picked it up and opened it to the page where she had stopped, when an unexpected and insistent ray of sunlight disturbed her concentration. She rolled over onto her back, while her lyre-shaped hand held the book open. Her reading interrupted, she stared into space. What was she thinking at that very moment?

Hardly arrived at the hotel, which she had chosen especially for its outside swimming pool, the young woman hardly lingered in the room and gained at once this enchanting place, with the shelter of the glances, which had allured her on the photographs and which filled her waitings. She plunged with delight into the fresh water, while the discreet pink flamingo seemed to observe its first swims.

This long strip of fine sand reveals the hectic path of a young woman walking her still young and unruly dog. Their itinerary is drawn on this yellow ochre ribbon like an improvised choreography. She had let herself be carried away in this stroll to this mythical place, but her mind had remained partly in the hotel's deckchair and despite the pleasure she had in contemplating the landscape, this long walk seemed interminable to her. I knew that smile, which revealed a mixture of contradictory feelings in her, and I already knew that soon I would paint her like that in a picture that would be entitled Destination Mont St Michel.

It was a place with a small floor area, of equal length and width, but with an unusual height. A place that vaguely reminded them of a champagne bottle box. The pebbles on the floor defined the bathtub's footprint, not large enough for the two of them to lie down in completely. Yet every time they were together in the small bathroom, their complicity grew.

It was the beginning of summer. The little red fruits she had loved since childhood were shining in the sunlight. Like the most sophisticated delicacies, they immediately gave her the irresistible urge to taste them, as they do every year. The bucket left under the tree was quickly filled. She took off her little yellow dress with thin straps and sat down a few metres away on the garden chair draped with a cotton cover. And as I watched, she began to enjoy her cherry picking with delight. Cherry time was here.

The weighted buckets were set up the day before the race. Each bucket had a brightly colored arrow indicating the route to follow. The arrowed route thus presented a similarity with certain slices of life.

At 6:53 p.m., they were sitting side by side on the worn-out bench next to the inn, which was very busy on this beautiful summer evening. The noise coming from the open door had destroyed the romanticism of this meeting that he had been looking forward to and imagining many times. The list of topics to discuss had given way to a silent observation of the nearby environment. Only the two glasses of white wine could suggest that they might have a taste in common...

The appointment had been made for 6.30 p.m. at the village inn that late summer evening. He had arrived a good half hour early and had taken his place on the old bench. His mind wasn't giving him much respite and kept telling him what to do next with a conversation that had started on his dating app a few months ago. With a red balloon in his hand, thoughtful and melancholic, he wondered about the subjects that might interest this as yet unknown woman and those that he might be better off avoiding.

"Wow, the wallpaper!" she exclaimed as she entered the room. A last-minute obligation had sent them on their way without having had time to organise. When night fell, they found only this strange little hotel still open, whose decoration projected them into an old-fashioned atmosphere that was not without a subversive charm. When she undressed and pushed him onto the bed as he was about to take some photos, his smartphone went off and caught her looking at their image in the mirror. He inwardly congratulated himself on this erotic selfie which would certainly remain their best memory of this unexpected stop.

She slips away in the middle of a fitting session, leaving me to discover her shoes abandoned at the feet of the Tuxedo and Leopard chair, the rag overflowing from the open drawer and stained with black shoe polish, as well as the novel she has been talking about for several days but that I had not yet seen. And suddenly I wonder: is this painting that offers itself to my eyes the fruit of chance, or is she trying to tell me something?
