Hatice Kumbaraci Gursoz

The artist was born in Adana in Nov. 5,1945. After completing her primary and secondary education in this city, she was enrolled at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Istanbul in 1964. She studied painting at the Cemal Tollu Atelier (Neset Günal, Dincer Erimez) and graduated from the Academy in 1969. After her graduation, she studied ceramics for two years in the Sadi Diren Atelier of the Academy. She worked as a painting and art history instructor for six years in Istanbul, Ankara and Adana.

The artist continued to pursue her interest in painting in Australia, Pakistan, Germany, Greece and Turkmenistan. She was accepted to the Federal Artists’ Union (BBK) in Germany. Receiving her first award while she was a primary school student, she received “Abdi Ipekçi Friendship and Peace Award”in 1997 due to her works in Greece. She also received “Turkmen Friendship Award” because of her exhibition in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan in 2003 and "Armada Art Award" because of her contribution to the Armada Art Festival in 2004.

She organised thirty-three solo exhibitions and participated in various group exhibitions and art fairs in Turkey, Australia, Pakistan, Germany, Greece, Turkmenistan,Syria, Jordan and Switzerlend. Her works can be found in private and official collections, museums and art galleries in Turkey and abroad.

The artist, who received number of plates and awards honouring her for the lectures she has given on Turkish and World Painting at various institutions, founded the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Suna Çokgür Ilicak Art Gallery and had been the curator of the gallery between March 2005 and March 2007

The artist who is the President of the Alumni Association of State Academy of Fine Arts (Ankara Branch) and Ankara representative of Bosphorus Sanat Gazetesi (Bosphorus Art Newspaper) is currently continuing her painting work in Ankara.
