Mildred Gil Parada

Born and raised in Merida, cultural, diverse and University City among the highest mountains of the Venezuelan Andes, gave Mildred Gil Parada an early age appreciation for the arts.
She started studies in Architecture at the “Universidad de Los Andes” in 1993. In 1998 Mildred moved to Puerto La Cruz, a coastal city facing the Caribbean Sea, causing in her a deep interest in the calcareous, stony, and solid as a mean of artistic expression.
Mildred graduated from the School of Arts “Armando Reveron” of Barcelona with an Associate of Arts in Sculpture, in 2001. During her studies discovered her passion for the stone under the wise eye and guidance of the Venezuelan artist and master sculptor, Valentin Malaver.
From 2004 to 2007, Mildred had the privilege to be counseled and guided by the Venezuelan master sculptor, Pedro Barreto.
In 2012, in her continuous needs to understand the stone, Mildred went to its origins. Mildred attends marble sculpture workshops in Carrara, Italy, at same marble quarries where Michelangelo Buonarroti extracted stones for his masterpieces.
Her work has been exhibited in numerous exhibitions, in the United States and Venezuela, being awarded several times: “One Hundred of Eastern”, 2007, First Prize in Sculpture for “Olas” (Waves); “VII National Biennial of Visual Arts”, 2007, Prize “Francisco Narvaez” in Sculpture ” for “Arpa” (Harp); “National Symposium of Sculpture”, 2009, Honorable Mention for “Guitarra en dos tiempos” (Guitar in two times).
In 2013 Mildred moved to Mesa, Arizona, where she is currently living and making her creative work in marble, granite, and limestone using local Arizona stones.
In the United States her work has been exhibited in art festivals and private exhibitions as the Sausalito Arts Festival 2015, Mission Federal Artwalk San Diego 2016, and Sedona Arts Festival 2015-2016. Recently, Wall Gallery in Dallas, Texas, start representing Mildred’s works in the area of Dallas.
