It all began with coloring books and having to color within the lines!! While playing on the fire-escape of her parent’s Manhattan apartment, Rose got to see drawings of hands done by the neighbor’s teenaged daughter (who also happened to be on the fire escape). Wow! Right away, she knew she wanted to learn how to do drawings like that.
Rose received a Bachelor and Master of Science Degree in Art Education from State University College at Buffalo.
Following college, her art career went in various directions. She did perspective drawings and kitchen designs for an upscale cabinet company, she taught public school art, and later worked as a graphic designer and illustrator.
Rose studied botanical illustration at the New York Botanical Garden and received a Certificate of Completion in the program. Here she received classical art training. A thorough study of composition, color theory and media technique were all important.
For the past 15 years she has painted botanicals in watercolor and still continues to teach at the New York Botanical Garden.
Still, her college years kept calling her to “be more creative, more inventive.” And so, Rose’s work took a new direction. She has returned to painting in oil on canvas. Her primary focus is directed at the abstracted use of the elements of art: line, color, shape and repetition integrated with those botanical influences she nurtured while doing

member of and exhibited with the Buffalo Society of
Artists, her work has been a part of the Albright Knox
Members’ Art Gallery and she has shown at the Chautauqua
Institute’s International Art Exhibitions.
This collection reflects my interesting the transformation of the natural world to an abstracted interpretation found in plant life.
The idea behind this work evolved from studying a cluster of alstroemeria flowers. I wondered how the parts of the flower were unconstrained and allow to float freely on the canvas. I gave the elements brighter appearances to offer them a livelier experience.
Cala Lilies have always been a favorite of mine. They have a graceful fluidity that speaks to my love of the dance. I see their colors as expressions of mood found in movement.
Winter Sunlight is part of a series of tree forms. The coolness of the ground with the touches of sunlight on the cold white tree tops says that there is still some warmth found in the depths of winter when the sun reflects.
This small painting holds an enlarged lemon juxtaposed by its blossoms. The colors reflect bright surface the personality of the lemon fruit presents.
I could not help naming this work Happiness. It represents a moment of joy working alongside an old friend. The painting came together so spontaneously that it spoke to my own feelings of well being.
