BIO: Rick Smith
Rick Smith is an Abstract Expressionist artist with his
studio and gallery in Avalon (Sydney Australia). Born in Melbourne Australia he
obtained a degree in Electronics Engineering and formed his own Medical Imaging
company. However his passion for art that started in his teenage years has now
evolved into a full time profession. Ricks art is displayed in private
galleries around Australia and his artwork has been exhibited in Europe,
England and Australia. Inspired by artists such as Wassily Kandinsky and Henri
Matisse Ricks unique artwork utilises stimulating paint colours and texture
which allows him the freedom to communicate ideas and emotions in a subjective
way to evoke the subconscious mind of the viewer. With all of his art Rick
creates work that he passionately believes would give joy to any observer.
Color and texture are not just tools, they are languages and in my compositions I offer viewers an entry into moods rather than scenes, enabling a kind of emotional translation that bypasses intellect. Viewers are invited to feel rather than analyze, to experience rather than decode. This connection between the
observer and the artwork is, for Smith, the ultimate measure of success: whether a piece stirs a quiet reflection or an
ecstatic thrill must evoke something real within the subconscious.
