Glass is a mysterious material. Heat, fragility, and hardness create the mystique of glass. At once beautiful and unruly, fascinating and idiosyncratic. Difficult to work with – the poetry of the unknown! Only those who delve into these secrets can create works of art of timeless beauty.
Georg H. Taupe was born in Villach in 1957. Since 1990, he has intensively studied various glass processing methods. For him, glass was never a material degraded to a purely functional object. He understands it as both an aesthetic and functional material. Glass is eternally fluid, a material that can be shaped infinitely.
He familiarized himself with glass in order to be able to work with it. He primarily uses the furnace melting technique – a processing technique that is very old and was rediscovered about 70 years ago – known as fusing.
This type of glass processing creates glass objects that continually emanate the fascinating magic of glass and thus exude their own charm!
"Fusing is a processing technique in which differently colored glasses or glass plates are created through the controlled melting of glass in a kiln. In this way, glass is melted in a special kiln and transformed into unique objects. I then process and shape the resulting, attractively designed glass plates into everyday objects, collages, pictures, and other appealing glass creations. The result is glass illusions! Glass objects in the form of pictures, mirrors, bowls, and pieces of furniture. Objects for home decoration that emanate the fascinating magic of glass and thus exude their own charm!"
