Four decades ago, Sylvia Martens, aka Nea Marten, was a three-year-old girl painting her nursery wallpaper with pens and dreamily singing to herself.
After school, she trained as a dentist's assistant and earned a vocational high school diploma. It wasn't the right thing for her. So she began studying interior design and later pursued a career as a singer in bands, as a solo artist with her own albums, and as a songwriter.
15 years on the road, living out of a suitcase - traveling to interviews and appearances on radio and TV (MDR, Sat.1, NDR, HR, SWR), on stage with their hits such as:
- "Wohin wir auch gehen" (Where We Go) (a duet with DSDS coach Oliver Lukas in 2013, stayed in the top 10 of the deutsch.konservativ airplay charts for weeks),
- "Es rappelt im Karton" (electropop from the eis.de TV commercial, Spotify streaming numbers in the six-digit range),
- "Puppy Love" (a hit in Eastern Europe and Latin America),
- "Magic Mystery" (stayed in the German DJ charts for 35 weeks, produced by 80s hit producers Luis Rodriguez (Modern Talking, CC Catch) and Matt Pop), and
- "Kaleidoskop" (produced by Hamburg-based Udo Lindenberg producers Sandi Strmljan and Peter Koobs).
Sylvia Martens gained experience on film sets through studio guest appearances on radio and TV programs for MDR (such as MDR um 2, Ross Antony Show), SWR (Fröhlicher Alltag), RBB, HR4, and as a film and TV actress.
She has appeared as a guest on the show "Mieten, kaufen, Wohnen" (VOX), "Kitsch oder Kasse" (RTL), in the ZDF crime series "Soko Leipzig," in "Tierärztin Dr. Mertens," "Auf Streife," and "K 1," as well as in the film series "Blackout."
During the 2021 coronavirus lockdown, the Thuringian native rediscovered painting.
At the same time, Sylvia Martens completed a distance learning journalism course in Berlin and has been working for MDR Thüringen in Erfurt since 2021, producing cross-media cultural programs and hosting the MDR Schlagerwelt program.
The title of her first solo exhibition on April 20, 2024, was "Going Back - To the Beginning." The painter, presenter, and musician is returning to her roots. And the beginning of an exciting journey is bearing fruit: Since 2023, 14 paintings have been sold to art lovers. Interest abroad has also grown steadily: in 2024, exhibitions followed in Rome, London, Dubai, New York and Zurich. Reports in BILD DER FRAU and TAG 24 followed.
In June 2025, Nea Marten will present newly produced songs at her second solo exhibition at the MDR Landesfunkhaus Magdeburg.
