Fernando Robles is an internationally recognized painter celebrated for his expressive realism, classical technique, and ability to capture the emotional essence of his subjects. His work spans portraiture, figurative painting, still life, and landscapes—each piece inviting viewers into a visual dialogue filled with light, meaning, and story.
Born with a deep affinity for the arts, Fernando began his formal art education in 1973 at George Brown College of Applied Arts in Toronto, Canada. Life later took him into managing family orthodontic practices across the United States, but painting remained an enduring calling. What began as a private passion evolved into a profound professional pursuit—guided by discipline, mentorship, and a devotion to traditional oil painting.
Fernando was deeply influenced by his apprenticeship under California Master Painter Rafael Maniago, whose emphasis on technique and expression shaped Fernando’s early artistic language. Building on this foundation, Fernando furthered his art education at several of North America’s most prestigious institutions:
• New York Academy of Art, studying under acclaimed artist Alyssa Monks
• Art Students League of New York, mentored by Gregg Kreutz
• National Academy School of Fine Arts and Design Museum, NYC, with Samuel Adoquei
• Additional instruction at Montclair Art Museum (NJ), Woodstock School of Art (NY), and the College of Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts
His work is deeply rooted in time-honored techniques, such as chiaroscuro and alla prima, while integrating the spontaneity of impressionism and the soulfulness of modern realism. Fernando paints with the belief that every subject holds a story—whether a fleeting gesture, a quiet glance, or the tender complexity of aging hands.
Fernando’s paintings have garnered awards in national and international juried competitions from the West Coast to Europe, including:
• American Art Awards (1st & 3rd Place Awards, San Francisco)
• Portrait Society of Canada (Artist of the Month, Juried Finalist, People’s Choice Award)
• Portrait Society of America (International Members-Only Juried Competition)
• Gallery Ring, Grey Cube Gallery, and Light Space Time Gallery (Merit, Crystal, and Ruby Awards)
• Fusion Art, Ten Moir Gallery, Artist Space Gallery, and PleinAir Magazine Competitions
• 2025 TArtget International Finalist Awards, Ateneo de Madrid, Spain
With multiple first-place awards on both coasts of the United States, Fernando’s art has been featured in high-profile exhibitions and is held in private and corporate collections throughout North America.
