A self-taught polymath, Michael
Malicoat expresses himself through painting, photography, and
sculpture. His art also extends into 30 years as a performing musician.
He also holds the distinction of being a master woodworker and
cabinetmaker. He is a black belt martial artist and pilot. His
versatile painting style embraces the concept of alla prima, reflecting
his bipolar nature and evolving vision in his fluid artistic approach.
Malicoat's art radiates his resilient optimism, unearthing sublime
beauty from both the meteoric heights and melancholic depths of his
bi-polar vision, gently guiding viewers towards an empathetic insight
into understanding his art .
This particular work was inspired by my long time interest in watching people and portraying them in various activities, one of which being in their recreational activities. This scene shows the visitors as they slowly make their way back to their cars, and to the shops and restaurants after a day spent frolicking in the sunshine and water. The lights that shine in the short distance announce the local establishments that beckon to all beach goers that they are ready to serve. As it is, like time and tides, it's another day in time and the waves of the tides continue to propel the cycles of creation...All things are imminent.

a serene moment of quiet companionship, blending realism and impressionism to evoke deep warmth and connection. Through vibrant, fiery skies and tender postures, I wanted to express the peaceful bond between human and nature, inviting viewers to feel calm and inspired. This artwork will fill your space with gentle energy and remind you of the beauty found in stillness and loyalty.
I particularly enjoy creating the images of many different light houses that display the fierce power of nature’s storm juxtaposed with the steady, warm light of the lighthouse. When painting this, I tried to capture the electric energy of the lightning and crashing waves that embodies the turmoil and fear, while the light symbolizes hope, security and resilience. My inspiration for this rendering is to bring out the dynamic emotion and a bold energy that transforms any space into a sanctuary of strength and courage.
This painting is pretty much just me completing the concept of my previously submitted "morning sun" painting in which the 2 dimensional inspiration was committed to be a concept on canvas. This current rendering takes the metamorphosis from concept into the greater, more substantive realm of a 3rd dimension. It also adds a deeper, extra dimension of emotion, peacefulness, and the presence of mystery.
In this piece, I wanted to express the quiet solitude a rainy night brings amid the city's ever-moving pulse. The glow from the street lamps and reflections on wet pavement evoke a mix of melancholy and hope. The figure in the yellow coat symbolizes warmth and resilience, inviting you to feel the calm energy and introspection this moment holds, bringing a cozy yet vibrant aura to any space.
