“All Dressed Up No Where To Go”
Self Portrait of myself portraying a woman who has beautiful dresses, but no occasion to wear them. So she seats at home alone pouring herself a glass of wine.
I collect vintage fashion and like to pose my young models in different era fashions. The inspiration for this painting was "Breakfast at Tiffanies". My model fit perfect into this 1960's Lanvin dress where I had her sit in a 1960's womb chair by Finish designer Ero Saarinen. I like my paintings to capture a mood, so I placed her floating in a field of sunflowers that Juxtaposition with the dresses purple, blue colors.
My inspiration for this painting comes from one of the parables of Jesus, "An Angel Appears". My painting shows an angel appearing through a heavenly portal. Wielding a sword, dressed in an ephemeral dress with hawk wings, who has come to separate the righteous from the wicked.
I collect vintage Fashion and in this self portrait I'm doing my laundry in a laundromat, but my head wants to be in another dimension wearing a cocktail dress and entertaining friends and family. The dress is a fifties cocktail dress that would have been the attire for parties in the 50's. The chalk drawing on the blackboard is a nod to Munch's, "The Scream", that depicts a priest overwhelmed by he's parishioners confessions and mine.
I've dressed my model in a 1930's kimono to create the mood Frida was feeling when Diego Rodriguez left without her for America, with a Mexican film actress for 7 years. He was unhappy in America and eventually returned to Frida who accepted him, but she did not forgive him.
This paintings inspiration comes from the 1968 song by Steppenwolf's John Kay who debunked the myth that "Magic Carpet Ride" was about an acid trip, but about how listening to music can transport you. my model is Aerial positioned on an antique Kazakhstan carpet and dressed in a 1980 Romeo Gigli vintage dress with a peacock representing exotic luxury on this magic carpet ride.
