I am (Rakesh Deb )
.Rakesh Deb
is a visual artist whose practice is rooted in figurative drawing and painting, exploring themes of human existence, psychological tension, inner conflict, and silent endurance. His works reflect an expressionistic visual language marked by strong lines, restrained colour palettes, and emotionally charged forms. Through the human figure, he investigates memory, fatigue, solitude, and the unseen struggles of everyday life.
Through this painting, I wanted to express that motherhood is not only about love and tenderness, but also about pain and sacrifice. It reflects the social pressure and distorted mindset imposed on women, a mother’s mental suffering, fear, and loneliness, and her tragic existence standing between life and death. The story of motherhood is not just flowers and smiles—it is also blood, broken bones, tears, and a shattered body. This work is a raw and uncompromising protest against the beautification of motherhood, revealing it as a space of suffering and erosion as much as care.
This artwork attempts to unveil a terrifying facet of contemporary society. By employing the metaphor of aquatic life, it illustrates the exploitation of humans by humans. It is not just big fish swallowing small fish; rather, they are devouring humanity itself—a reflection of the cruel reality of the modern world.
The skeletal human figures serve as symbols of the inner hollowness and moral decay of our civilization. The dominance of the color red transforms the entire canvas into a memorial of a blood-stained history and relentless violence.
Through this work, I want to pose a question to the viewer:
"Are we truly civilized, or are we merely more sophisticated predators?"
