The late American pop Artist Steve Kaufman aka SAK 1960-2010
Steve Kaufman painted such timeless pieces such as: Coca Cola, Marilyn Monroe, Mozart, Beethoven, The Wizard of Oz, Mohammad Ali, his money series, and his paintings of famous singers, actors and icons. His audience was vast and large, and his contribution to society was enormous. Steve Kaufman launched and operated the “Give Kids a Break Fund,” a successful charity which helped inner city kids from troubled homes or straight from jail. Steve Kaufman gave these kids a job and his trust when no one else would, and provided ambitious opportunities.
Steve Kaufman’s paintings have been exhibited in numerous museums including The Andy Warhol Museum of Modern Art in Slovakia; the Reiss-Engelhorn Museum in Mannheim, Germany; The Museum of Contemporary Art in Hot Springs, AR; The Motown Historical Museum in Detroit, MI; the Blues & Legends Hall of Fame Museum in Memphis, TN; The American Sport Art Museum & Archives in Daphne, AL; The Pop Culture Gallery at The World of Coca-Cola in Atlanta GA; the Palazzo Costanzi in Trieste, Italy; Museo Casa Enzo Ferrari (House of Ferrari Museum) in Modena, Italy; Internationale Stiftung Mozarteum (Mozart Museum) in Salzburg, Austria; The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust in Warwickshire, England; and at least two U.S. presidential libraries.
Steve Kaufman was legendary. He is remembered as a trailblazing American pop artist, former assistant to Andy Warhol, and a generous humanitarian. His paintings found their way into the homes and hearts of so many--capturing the true American pop art experience. He is so painfully missed, but his memory and his art will live forever.

Steve Kaufman's tremendous passion for art made him look back into history before he would go forward. He was deeply moved by the great masters of art, music, history, and literature. Steve wanted to show his respect for those who preceded him and greatly influenced his life. And so, beginning in 1996, Steve began a series of paintings that included Da Vinci, Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Mozart, Beethoven, Shakespeare, Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dali.
One of Steve Kaufman's Mozart paintings is on permanent exhibition at The Reiss-Engelhorn Museum in Mannheim, Germany. In July 2014, one of Steve’s celebrated paintings, “Mozart State II,” was added to the permanent collection at Internationale Stiftung Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. In 2016, Steve Kaufman’s “Shakespeare State II” was added to The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust at Stratford upon Avon, UK.
Hundreds of patrons and the media were present for the unveiling of these brilliant paintings. Representatives of these museums and preservation societies delivered speeches about Steve Kaufman, why he was so inspired, and his interpretations that honor icons of time.
Most recently, Steve Kaufman’s “Beethoven Gold” was added to the permanent collection at Beethoven-Haus Bonn, the birthplace of the master composer. The formal presentation of this painting will take place in March 2017, with a beautiful gala consisting of museum members, patrons of the arts, and the news media.

Steve Kaufman painted icons. World leaders, singers, movie stars, famous landmarks and products that captured the American spirit. Steve worked with Andy Warhol while in college and there he learned the art of silkscreening. From there he went on to create art with fabulous colors and exciting images.
