In recent years Chainikov has emerged as Russian Realism's newest and brightest find. His recent death at the age of 47 is a great loss to Russia, and to the international art world. Chainikov embraced Russian Realism and remained ever true to its spirit. As he explained, "My themes arise on their own, through insight and not from engaging in subtleties.." His landscapes are often filled with human forms. He painted the everyday: peasants, the field workers, the old, and the young. He painted only what matters, only what is real. In the pater years of his life, one could most often find the non-assuming Chainikov at The Academic Dacha, painting Russia's humblest fold, with the compassion and understanding of an artist who knows only how to paint the truth and the realism of life.
♩♪Popular, I know about popular ♫♭ JoAnne Artman Gallery is pleased to present, "P O P·u·lar," an exhibition featuring the works of Greg Miller, John “CRASH” Matos, and Michael Callas. Inspired by the long-running Broadway musical Wicked, and its famous song, Popular, the show examines contemporary society through the lens of Pop Art. Touching on notions of conformity, beauty, popularity, and the current cultural landscape, Miller, Matos, and Callas challenge convention through their inclusion and disjunction of pop-culture and advertising.

DEADLINE - NOV 22, 2020 Juror: Danny Floyd Apply here: https://arcgallery.wufoo.com/forms/solitude/ Solitude can elicit either a sense of euphoria or peace, or a sense of confinement or punishment, while others are isolated in a community unit. As we move forward into the fall and winter months, and COVID continues to impede our movements and interactions, how do we, as individuals, or as members of a larger, even worldwide community, process these survival confinements? As artists, we can use our medium to express the inner joy, conflict, frustration, sadness or peace we find ourselves confronting. ARC is searching for your creative endeavors as a reflection of your process under the current circumstances, keeping artists alone but pulling together into a community. The exhibition will run from Jan 8 - Feb 27, 2021.
