My work combines oil painting and mixed media to transform my travels and research into "Written Images." My creative process begins with a written statement that defines the concept and guides the development of the work. It is at this point of convergence between lived experience and research that the narrative takes shape, subsequently becoming images—that is, paintings.
Throughout my forty years as a visual artist, I have developed six independent projects: The Why of Valparaíso / From Valparaíso to Neruda / The Trace of Time / From Saltpeter to Iquique / Experience on This Side and Beyond the Border / Portraits of Body and Soul.
Each of my series has its own content and develops independently, maintaining a common thread that unites them, forming part of a single, continuous inquiry stemming from my interest in and inspiration for the relationship between memory, territory, history, and its inhabitants.
The essence of the central theme present throughout my work is:
"The Human Condition."
