RENATE HELENE SCHWEIZER Artist Researcher | Ecology of the Social Material Ethics · Cultural Archives · Social Sculpture Artistic research on Care, Climate, Democracy and Collective Futures Renate Helene Schweizer is a German Artist Researcher whose interdisciplinary practice explores the Ecology of the Social: the relationships between people, materials, environments, memory and collective responsibility. For more than two decades, she has conducted continuous artistic research into how everyday materials carry traces of human life, cultural histories and global systems. Since 2005, used tea bags have been one of the central materials of this research — not as a mere recycled medium, but as carriers of material biography, memory and social connection. Schweizer transforms material traces into cultural archives, participatory installations and forms of social sculpture. Individual fragments, memories and voices become connected within larger structures, creating spaces in which personal experience can become collective reflection. Her practice brings together Material Ethics, Care, ecological transformation, democratic participation and collective futures. She asks how we relate to the materials we consume, the environments we inhabit and the people with whom we share a world. The discarded object therefore becomes more than waste. It becomes a witness, a memory carrier and a point of connection. From material to memory. From memory to relation. From relation to collective imagination. Her long-term artistic research unfolds through projects including WeltenBürgerWelt – Installation für einen Ort der Menschlichkeit, Letters for Future and WeltenBürgerNetz. Across these works, Schweizer develops artistic spaces of encounter in which material, memory and participation converge — creating forms of cultural archive that remain open, relational and future-oriented. What happens when we stop seeing discarded materials as the end of a story and begin to see them as carriers of what we have lived? This question lies at the heart of Schweizer's artistic practice. Her work transforms material traces into collective memory, and collective memory into spaces for imagining a shared future.
