Joa Vilallonga is a Peruvian-American painter currently based in Florida. Trained at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes in Lima and at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, where she earned a BFA in Illustration (summa cum laude), her work explores inner states and the subtle atmospheres of human experience.

Joa’s work explores moments that exist between thought and feeling; states that are fragile, shifting, and difficult to define. Rather than building narratives, her paintings remain open and hold space for stillness as an active condition, allowing the viewer to approach the image without explanation or instruction.

Animals and small natural forms often appear as traces of what cannot be spoken directly and what a face alone cannot hold. Her practice centers on unresolved experiences, using painting as a process of release. Each work seeks to create a subtle pull; an image that invites the viewer to linger and recognize something familiar, even when meaning resists clear definition.
